MANILA - Aljur Abrenica was, in his words, "speechless and honored" to have officially signed as an ABS-CBN leading man mid-last year, after nearly a decade with rival network GMA-7.

Now, the 27-year-old actor is set to top-bill for the first time a Kapamilya teleserye, "Asintado," along with Julia Montes, Shaina Magdayao, and fellow "StarStruck" graduate Paulo Avelino.

Abrenica won, while Avelino was a finalist in the fourth season of the reality show, which was billed as GMA's flagship "artista" search.

An ABS-CBN star for seven years now, Avelino has appeared in over a dozen Kapamilya series, mostly as leading man. "Asintado" will mark the 29-year-old star's return to teleserye acting, just a year after "The Promise of Forever" in 2017.

Avelino an Abrenica are not the only "StarStruck" graduates who sought "meatier roles," as Avelino put it, and finally transferred to ABS-CBN.

In photos and videos, here are eight other celebrities who entered showbiz via "StarStruck," and eventually transferred to the Kapamila network.

CRISTINE REYES

Finalist, Season 1 (2003)

A contract artist of Viva, Reyes transferred to ABS-CBN in 2008, after four years with GMA. She was notably launched as a Kapamilya as the titular character in "Eva Fonda," and went on to top-bill several other series both in the afternoon and primetime blocks.

NADINE SAMONTE

Finalist, Season 1 (2003)

The 29-year-old actress, who was in the same "StarStruck" batch as Cristine Reyes, was briefly a Kapamilya in 2014, when she clinched back-to-back roles in "Maalala Mo Kaya" and the primetime series "Hawak Kamay."

PAUL SALAS

Finalist, Kids Edition (2004)

Now 19, Salas was only five years old when he joined the kiddie edition of "StarStruck" in 2004. His Kapamilya breakthrough came in 2008, while his latest acting role is in the acclaimed "The Good Son" on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida. Instagram.com/salas.paul

MEGAN YOUNG
