Transphobic rap song ‘Awit’ taken down from Spotify, YouTube

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/entertainment/01/18/2020118-vito_1.jpg"/><figcaption>Young Vito drew the ire of many when he released a song that had already been criticized for being transphobic. </figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA—It&#x27;s perhaps the shortest &quot;season&quot; on record. </p><p>Young Vito&#x27;s song &quot;Awit&quot; has now been taken down on both Spotify and YouTube, a day after the newbie rapper proclaimed the start of &quot;Awit season,&quot; a rather hopeful wish that his track which many criticized for being transphobic would be successful. </p><div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/entertainment/01/18/awit-season.jpg"/><figcaption>Young Vito&#x27;s transphobic song was taken down on both YouTube and Spotify, a day after its release. </figcaption></figure></div><p>It was released this Thursday under Viva Records, a <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/01/18/20/after-admitting-it-was-offensive-local-rapper-releases-transphobic-song-anyway">decision </a>made by the major record label amid the outrage the song&#x27;s lyrics caused last month. </p><p>Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith was among those who criticized Young Vito for mockingly singing about his experience of meeting a beautiful lady who turns out to be a trans woman. </p><p>Young Vito back then acknowledged that his song&#x27;s lyrics were offensive and claimed that he had learned how much &quot;[his] words can personally affect other people.&quot;</p><p>But he went ahead anyway and released a studio version of &quot;Awit&quot; this month, barely edited. He still sang in the track, &quot;Ang ganda niya pero parang may mali.
