MANILA -- For President Rodrigo Duterte, very few things are sadder than seeing a child grow up without having a constant father figure to lean on.

In his speech in Davao City, the country's leader surprisingly opened up about his family, getting candid about his frustrations with Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, his youngest son with first wife Elizabeth Zimmerman.

The older Duterte expressed his annoyance at Baste, whom he said he hasn't seen at home for quite a while. He added that Baste seems to prefer spending his time with an actress to taking care of his own kids.

"Hindi na umuuwi ng bahay, sige lang doon kay Adarna," Duterte scoffed. He was referring to sexy actress Ellen Adarna, whom Baste has been frequently spotted with for the past few months.

Duterte also revealed to taking in one of Baste's kids. He called it a "tragedy" to hear his grandchild talk bitterly about his son.

"[Tinanong ko siya], 'Sinong mahal mo? Papa mo at pati mama mo?' [Sagot niya], 'Mama lang.' See, it's a tragedy," he shared.

Duterte is known to be frank about his own children, saying while campaigning for presidency that he has no qualms about killing one of them if they get involved in illegal drugs.

Aside from Baste, he also has two more kids with Zimmerman, Paolo and Sara. He has another daughter with common-law wife Honeylet Avanceña.

Meanwhile, Duterte also talked about his own relationship with his late father, Vicente Duterte.

"I never got well along with my father. Alam mo sa totoo lang iyong tatay ko namatay na never -- hindi niya nga siguro aakalain na maging prosecutor ako, maging mayor ako -- I was just a law student when he died," he said.

Duterte continued that his mother was the one who had faith in him. "Pero iyong tatay ko, [sinasabi niya sa akin], 'Hanggang pantalan ka lang.' That's an cliche, ibig sabihin trabahador ka lang kasi hindi ka nag-aral."
