Sarah Geronimo protests after realizing she has been blocked from recruiting a contestant in ‘The Voice Teens’ Blind Auditions. ABS-CBN

MANILA — The superstar-coaches of “The Voice Teens” are in for fiercer rivalries with the introduction of the “power to block,” as seen in a teaser for the ABS-CBN program.

“The Voice Teens,” which will premiere on Saturday, sees the reunion of original coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and apl.de.ap.

A new addition in this season is the block mechanic. During a Blind Auditions performance, each coach can anonymously block a fellow coach from being chosen by an aspirant at the push of a button. The coach who was blocked will only find out that they are out of the game once their chair turns.

It adds a strategic layer to recruiting singers. In the teaser, Geronimo appeared to be an obvious match for a hopeful, but realized she had been blocked from wooing the contestant to join Team Sarah.

“Nagalit talaga ako! Sorry, ha. Sakit sa puso!” a frustrated Geronimo said.

In another part, Salonga admitted she blocked Geronimo, saying: “I had to stop her! Nakailang panalo na ‘yan?”

Of the regular, kids, and teens editions of “The Voice of the Philippines” since 2013 — a total of 8 seasons — Geronimo was on board for six of those runs. Across those six seasons, Team Sarah produced four winners.
