John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao appear in a teaser for ABS-CBN Films’ ‘Servando Magdamag.’ ABS-CBN

MANILA – For the first time, Shaina Magdayao has opened up about the movie which marked her onscreen reunion with her former boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz.

On the sidelines of her press conference for the movie “Tagpuan,” Magdayao clarified that she only made a cameo appearance in Cruz’s film “Servando Magdamag.”

“Actually, it’s not my film. I’ll answer it once and for all para hindi na tayo humaba pa. It’s not my film with him. It’s his film. It’s a Ricky Lee material. It’s called Servando Magdamag. It’s directed by Lav Diaz. It’s not my film. Cameo lang po ako,” she was quoted to have said in a PUSH article.

“Servando Magdamag” will mark Cruz’s film comeback after his two-year hiatus, and his first project with Magdayao since their 2012 split.

Magdayao said she agreed to appear in the film as a sign of gratitude to Diaz, who’s been her frequent collaborator in many films.

“I was able to attend so many international film festivals and the exposure he has given me is something na hindi ko inakalang mararating ko. Hindi ko inakalang mae-experience ko sa tanang buhay ko. So isang malaking utang na loob ko sa kanya ‘yun. So this is my way of thanking him by not saying no. So I did a cameo to be very exact,” she explained.

After doing the project, Magdayao said she is happy to have supported both Diaz and Cruz.

“At first, before shooting the film, ang disposition ko was okay gagawin ko ‘to for the love of Lav Diaz. But as we ended and by the last shooting day, I’m happy that I can now say that I was able to support not just my director Lav Diaz but also my friend, John Lloyd,” she said.

Magdayao also described the dynamics of her relationship with Cruz now.

“Okay naman kami nu’n. Pero never ko talaga nakita sarili ko na magkakasama kami sa trabaho. It was something na never ko naman na-experience before din,” she said.

“It’s so nice because we’re different people now. And obviously, we’re both very happy with our respective lives. Pero maliit lang talaga ang mundo ng showbiz. Ganu’n talaga ‘yun eh,” she added.
