Xiumin of Korean boy group EXO will start his mandatory military service in May, the first in his group to do so.

According to Korea Herald, EXO's agency, SM Entertainment announced that the 29-year-old Xiumin, whose real name is Kim Min-seok, will start his military service on May 7 as an active-duty soldier.

The agency, however, withheld the exact time and place of Xiumin's enlistment, as per his request to make it a quiet affair.

Before his enlistment, Xiumin will be joining EXO-CBX's concerts in Japan later this month.

EXO debuted in 2012 as a 12-member group under SM Entertainment. Three members have since departed.

The group is known for its songs "Ko Ko Bop" and "Love Shot."

Last year, EXO visited Manila twice -- first in April as part of their "Elyxion" tour, and then in October for "Show Champion."
