In "Shantidope," Gloc-9, widely regarded as one of the most talented rappers of his generation, finds himself searching perhaps for the next great rhymer to take hip-hop further into the mainstream, in the same way he did during the height of his career.

"Ang dami dami daming maiingay doon sa amin / O kay tagal ko nang nag-iikot para hanapin / Kung sinong sumusulat at humihingang malalim / At di hilaw ang kanin kapag siya ang nagsasaing," the verse goes before it repeats the name Shanti Dope.

Gloc-9 is admittedly a big fan of the teen, a skilled lyricist who at 16 has been making waves in the local music scene with his hit "Nadarang," a dreary, dark tune about drugs and tortured pining.

Shanti Dope's new video for the eponymous song released Friday has a similarly grim and vivid narrative, introducing the impoverished environment he grew up in --"Lumaki na guton lamang ang 'di kayang kalabanin."

It also features Gloc-9, bopping his head as Shanti Dope delivers his clever, intricately composed rhymes in front of him, his obvious approval helping instill the new video with a decided feel of a passing of the torch, from one great rapper to the next big name in the industry.
