<p>MANILA—Comedy icon Vic Sotto still hasn&#x27;t fully processed the fact that he now has a son who&#x27;s a city mayor, following newcomer Vico Sotto&#x27;s triumph in Pasig.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><div id="IVS_ABS_Body_Video_1_Container"> <ivs-player id="IVS_ABS_Body_Video_1" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-vid="1385676" data-ivs-floating="1"></ivs-player> <script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/iframe-parent.js"></script> <script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script> </div></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more in <a href="//www.iwantv.com.ph/">iWantv</a> or <a href="//tfc.tv/">TFC.tv</a></div><p>&quot;Hindi pa nag-si-sink in sa akin na may anak akong mayor,&quot; Vic told ABS-CBN News&#x27; Mario Dumaual on Tuesday. &quot;Siguro, &#x27;pag dating ng July, sa inauguration, siguro doon ko pa lang ma-ri-realize — &#x27;Aba, may anak na akong mayor.&#x27;&quot;</p><p>Vico, a first-term councilor in Pasig, ended the nearly 3-decade leadership of the Eusebios with his victory, an undertaking that&#x27;s been likened to the Biblical David and Goliath.</p><p>Asked what he believes were the factors that led to Vico&#x27;s win, the older Sotto said: &quot;Palagay ko sang-ayon sila doon sa campaign ni Vico na, una sa lahat, &#x27;iba naman,&#x27; at pangalawa, &#x27;yung pagbabago.</p><p>&quot;Ang tiningnan ng tao, &#x27;yung integridad niya. &#x27;Pag nagsalita siya kasi, ramdam mo na nanggagaling sa puso niya, hindi &#x27;yung generic, motherhood statements . . . Totoo &#x27;yung sinasabi, hindi dahil campaign period,&quot; he added.</p><p>The screen veteran then brought up key issues Vico has vowed to address, including healthcare, corruption and the disparity of wealth and opportunities between the eastern and western parts of Pasig.</p><p>Going against a &quot;well-oiled machine,&quot; in Vic&#x27;s words, was by no means an easy feat for Vico. He claimed Vico experienced &quot;bullying&quot; even during his term as councilor.</p><div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/news/05/14/20190514-vico-sotto-proclamation-gc-2005.jpg"/><figcaption>Vico Sotto is hugged by his mother, Coney Reyes, after his proclamation as Pasig City mayor on Tuesday. <em>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>Through the challenges, Vic and Reyes have made it a point to give their son constant encouragement.</p><p>&quot;Hindi ako puwedeng panghinaan ng loob, kasi nakikita ko kung gaano ka-set ang kanyang mind, kung gaano siya katapang, kung gaano siya ka-determinado,&quot; Vic said.</p><p>Vic, whose brother and former co-host Tito Sotto is the current Senate president, had a quick answer when asked if he would have a role similar to the political Sottos.</p><p>He said he will stick to being a voter in Pasig, and will leave all matters of governance to Vico, &quot;dahil mas maraming siyang alam kaysa sa &#x27;kin.&quot;</p><p>&quot;&#x27;Yung experience niya sa government, sa civil society, ako&#x27;y tiwala sa kanya na he will deliver.</p><p>&quot;Kumbaga sa pelikula, ako&#x27;y supporting actor lang. Ang leading man dito, ang bida rito, si Vico. Nandito lang ako to support him, para mas palakasin ang kanyang loob. Iyon lang ang role ko,&quot; he said.</p>
