No longer lost: Gab Valenciano finds ‘way back to the light,’ seeks to inspire others

<p>MANILA — After besting a “dark” period in his life, singer-dancer Gabriel Valenciano is seeking to inspire others who may be going through a similar struggle.</p><div class="embed-wrap"><figure 2019, illustrating the contrast between his gaunt appearance then, and his healthier appearance now.</p><p>The photos, he said, serve as a “simple reminder that no matter how lost you are in the dark, you can always find your way back to the light if you choose to do so.”</p><p>Valenciano had a tumultuous past three years starting in 2016, when his marriage with ex-wife Tricia Centenera broke down due to his infidelity.</p><p>In early 2018, he apologized on social media “to everyone I may have hurt,” saying that because he hadn’t been his “true self,” he “demolished beautiful bridges” and “strayed away from my family, my passions, my friends, and even our almighty God.”</p><p>That same year, his father Gary was diagnosed with cancer, which he has since been cleared darkest most painful” time of his life, when he “imploded and tried to hurt myself to numb myself of the pain, disappointment, uncertainty, doubt and fear.”</p><p>In his Facebook post on Thursday, Valenciano told his followers that getting better is a choice “you alone can make.”</p><p>“It won’t be easy and you will face challenges where ending it all may seem like the only viable option, it isn’t and never will be.</p><p>“Beat it by surrounding yourself with the right people and find an ecosystem where your spirit and soul can flourish. Be aware, be vigilant and be open.
