MANILA – Since the lockdown in Metro Manila was put in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease, Sam Concepcion had to deal with actually living alone even if he’s had his own place for three years now.

Speaking to MYX VJs Edward Barber and Ai Mendoza, Concepcion shared that being alone has been an interesting experience for him because it’s given him the luxury of using his free time to do what he really wants.

“I live alone so I’ve been locked in here for quite some time. I rarely see a lot of people but it’s given me a time to just slow down and take my time and use it the way I want. It’s been good. There’s been a lot of time to go back to studying, to music and dance even,” he said.

Concepcion, however, noted that it’s also been tough for him because he was never really a homebody prior to the quarantine.

“I’ll be out with people, or I’ll be out working. I literally only come home to sleep almost always. This is the only time that I am experiencing living alone. It’s been really interesting. Marami na akong imaginary friends and different versions of me in the living room,” he said in jest.

Concepcion also said the lockdown has helped his discover new talents.

“Learning how to cook is definitely one of them because I don’t cook at all. We all learn how to do it to survive. I enjoy making pasta, easy stuff lang. Pero nung mga una talaga, corned beef lang ako. I’m learning a new life skill,” he said.

When asked what he misses the most about working outside, he said: “I guess everything about it.”

While there are so many aspects of the normal life that he misses doing, Concepcion said it is actually performing on stage that he longs to do.

“It’s really performing on stage, being in that kind of environment. Just the whole thing about it. Iba 'yung performing on stage and having a real time connection with people. This works for now and maybe I’ll do more of it but I really do miss being on stage,” he said.

Would he consider doing a concert online or an album launch online?

“Yeah, I’ve thought about it. I’ve been offered a couple of times to do something like that but I wasn’t sure about doing it. Now that I’ve given it much consideration, I think this is where entertainment is right now. Everything is online. This is where we get entertainment, news and everything. That’s definitely something that I’d like to do.,” he said.

“It’s just hard to set up something na live show especially if you don’t have the right equipment. You want to make sure it looks nice. You want to make sure that it sounds nice. That’s going to take a lot of time and effort,” he added.

Nonetheless, like many performers, Concepcion said all of them just have to adapt to the situation brought about by the pandemic.
