MANILA - Jason Francisco's decision to call off his relationship with Melai Cantiveros after getting jealous over her onscreen partner for an afternoon series has drawn criticism from fans and industry professionals, with many describing it as petty.

Talent manager Ogie Diaz, after news broke of the "end of Melason," said Francisco should be more open with Cantiveros being partnered with other artists.

Diaz said claiming that one is a naturally jealous person is not an excuse.

"Hindi porket seloso ka eh tatanggapin na ng buong bayan iyang pagkaseloso mo," he said during his guest appearance on the radio program of hosts Ahwel Paz and Jobert Sulcadito, also a talent manager, Wednesday night.

"Parang kung mamamatay tao ka ba eh sasabihin mo lang na, 'Intindihin mo ako ah na pumapatay ako kasi gusto ko ito eh.' Siyempre may kalalagyan ka kung pumatay ka. Ganito rin ito. Seloso ka, eh ang ending niyan mawawalan kayo ng trabaho," Diaz added.

Sucaldito also criticized Francisco. "This is the wrong industry para asahan niya na mapagbigyan ang kanyang mga hiling. For cinematic purposes lang naman. Wala naman relasyon sina Melai at Carlo Aquino," he said.

Aquino was Cantiveros' onscreen partner in "We Will Survive," which concluded early this month. Sucaldito said Francisco's jealousy would have made more sense if there were reports about Aquino flirting with Cantiveros while on set.

Paz, for his part, advised Francisco and Cantiveros to resolve their marital problems. "Mare-realize din nila iyan pareho na mahal nila ang isa't isa. Magbabalikan din iyang dalawa," he said.

All three were in agreement, however, that Francisco has the tendency to become an overprotective husband "kasi mahal na mahal niya si Melai."

Francisco early Wednesday announced his split with Cantiveros in a series of posts on the Instagram account of their only child Amelia "Mela" Lucille, who turned two last April.

The fan-favorite couple were married on December 9, 2013 at the Holy Cross Parish in General Santos City, three months after Cantiveros announced her pregnancy.

Just two weeks ago, the comedienne vowed to stick it out with Francisco despite some problems in their relationships, saying it is just normal for couples to have arguments.

Fans were saddened by the news, with one commenting on an article on the topic posted on the Facebook page of ABS-CBN News: "You should just appreciate your wife for working hard."
