MANILA -- Although he is known more for his funny antics as Benny on the hit series "Ang Probinsyano," Pepe Herrera actually graduated from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.

Appearing on "Magandang Buhay" on Thursday, Herrera sang the Neopolitan song "'O Sole Mio" -- a favorite among classical tenors -- and to show his range, he also performed Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Herrera shared that he was working as a cruise ship waiter in 2011 when he realized that he wanted to pursue his passion for singing.

"Four years ago nagtrabaho ako sa barko, seaman, as a waiter at saka singer sa gabi. Doon ko na realize na gusto kong mag-perform full-time for a living," Herrera said.

Eventually, Herrera also decided to try his luck as an actor.

"Pagbalik ko sa Pilipinas sinubukan kong mag-full time performer at nagturo din po ako ng voice and drums at saka music classroom teaching. Then nag-full-time ulit sa pag-perform hanggang sa nag-crossover sa different medium, sa theater, movie, sa television," said Herrera, who won Best Actor in this year's CineFilipino for his performance in the movie "Sakaling Hindi Makarating."

Aside from "Ang Probinsyano," Herrera is also part of hit Pinoy musical "Rak of Aegis," which is currently on its fifth run at the PETA Center.

"Masarap po sa pakiramdam na 'yung pinapaligaya mo kumbaga sa teatro from 500, umabot ng 5,000, umabot ng 5 million," he said.
