MANILA - Things escalated quickly between "Camp Sawi" star Andi Eigenmann and actor Jake Ejercito when the exes started throwing barbs at each other on Twitter Tuesday.

It all started when Ejercito claimed that Eigenmann was purposely dragging his name to promote her new film, which led to a litany of clapbacks from the actress. "Huwag masyadong mayabang. Nahahalata 'yung pagiging narcissistic mo," wrote Eigenmann.

Ejercito, for his part, responded to her ex's tirades by claiming that she is a "sham," adding that fans will soon thank him for "ridding the world of another fake" when the "entire story and truth come out."

If you are a regular follower of messy celebrity relationships, then the former couple's rants will make sense to you. But if you have not, then you are probably scratching your head when Eigenmann said: "Buti nga kaya ko aminin na nasawi ako eh."

Since news broke that Ejercito's parents -- Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and former actress Laarni Enriquez -- disapproved of their relationship back in 2012, Eigenmann has been playing the role of a jilted lover.

She confirmed on national television in November that year that they have broken up, even after Estrada denied interfering with their romance, adding that she "tried" to make it work.

Things got more interesting soon after when Ejercito went on the record and claimed that his relationship with Eigenmann "overlapped" with the actress' ties with Albie Casiño -- the alleged father of her daughter, Ellie.

But despite their fallout, rumors about the two getting back together later emerged, with Eigenmann even publicly professing his love for the actor, who was also rumored to be the father of Ellie, on Instagram. But it appeared even they were unsure about the real score between them.

In January 2013, Eigenmann said that she considered them to be a couple, while Ejercito, who was studying in London at the time, maintained that they were just friends.

A year later, the two decided to "split" up once more, with Eigenmann claiming that Ejercito was not there for her when she needed him after her father, actor Mark Gil, passed away.

"Nandoon na po ako sa point na wala na po akong oras para maghintay pa po sa kanya o umasa pa po sa kanya," Eigenmann told the new-defunct talk show "The Buzz."

But their on again, off again relationship would continue. This, despite also being linked with others. Eigenmann was tagged in the split of Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil, and even had a short-lived romance with actor Bret Jackson. Ejercito, meanwhile, was rumored to have been with a woman identified as KC del Rosario.

In a press conference for her upcoming film held last week, Eigenmann described her relationship with Ejercito, whom she once considered as the closest "father figure" to her daughter, as her "most painful yet."

Her admission appeared to have prompted Ejercito to vent on Twitter, saying: "Can't you promote your film by only entertaining questions about the film or perhaps your career?"

"As much as I've tried my best to ignore it, I can't stay silent when I am conveniently and effortlessly being maligned out of nowhere," he added. "Stay positive and real, everyone. And for those who aren't, try it. Life is too awesome. #CampMoveOn"

Their feud became one of the most talked about topics on Twitter in the Philippines, as it drew comparisons with the recent online spat between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.
