Camille lives! And is pregnant, with the finale relying on an old trope of having a heroic sacrifice remembered through a newborn.

There's some doubt as to whether Camille (Shaina Magdayao) will be satisfied with a child, when all she wants is to marry the man she loves. But, as pointed out by her mother in a more-sincere-less-poetic manner, 'tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

The first minutes of "The Better Half" finale were used to wrap up the aftermath of a scorn-filled shooting rampage by Bianca (Denise Laurel) as she tried to kill Camille for merely existing. If Camille did not, then the man Bianca pined for, Marco (Carlo Aquino), may have turned to love her instead.

It concluded with Marco killing her, an example of just how fate (scriptwriters) can be cruel.

Bianca did manage to fatally wound Camille's one and only, Rafael (JC de Vera), so nobody exactly "won" in this scenario, where all that's left was a heartbroken Camille and a Marco that knew the woman who owned his heart can never fully love her.

Then it jumped to a scene just before Rafael's death. Camille, while recovering from gunshot wounds, had a dream where she and Rafael were lying on the side of a hill, talking about how they could love each other forever in this "heaven-like" world.

While Camille was quick to grab the idea of handing her life to death, Rafael was more sensible. He knew Camille was pregnant and could never tell her to give up on their child as well, no matter how much he wants to be with her.

Fast forward a bit and Camille's mother could be seen trying to console her daughter, who posed some interesting questions. Why does God give when he plans to take it away all along?

"Mas mabuti na lang sana kung hindi kami nagkatuluyan," she mused.

Her mother had no answer but told her: "Hindi pinagsisihan ang pagmamahal kahit gaano kaikling panahon."

Despite her mother's best efforts, Camille still had this dejected look. She knew she doesn't have a choice.

A funeral, with three eulogies, was offered for Rafael then served as the penultimate scene. There, Camille read the wedding vows she had prepared for her and Rafael's wedding.

One timeskip later and Camille could be seen visiting Rafael's grave with her son, whom she named after him.

She bumped into Marco, who, after exchanging pleasantries, could be seen fantasizing over "what if" scenarios. I could have been the father of that child, he thought.

The finale might have been more straightforward than the eerie, mysterious labyrinth-filled teasers seemed to suggest, but it was all the better for it.

It wanted to again remind viewers about the glory in sacrifice, how love transcends death, and that you can never really predict destiny.
