Pinoy crime film to be shown at Korean film festival

Batacan&#x27;s internationally published crime novel, &quot;Smaller and Smaller Circles,&quot; will be shown at this year&#x27;s Busan International Film Festival, it was announced Monday. </p><p>The Raya Martin-directed adaptation is among the 298 films selected from 75 countries for screening at the festival, set to run in South Korea&#x27;s port city of Busan from October 12 to 21. </p><p>From the producers of &quot;Heneral Luna,&quot; the mystery thriller tells the story of two priests in search of a serial killer in Manila, and stars Sid Lucero, Nonie Buencamino, Bembol Roco, and Carla Humphries. </p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6WGJFX_x2Js" width="560"></iframe></figure><p>It joins three other feature films from the Philippines, namely &quot;Those Long Haired Nights&quot; by Gerardo Calagui, &quot;The Decaying&quot; by Sonny Calvento, and &quot;Sea Serpent&quot; from Joseph Laban. </p><p>Other Filipino works that were selected were the shorts &quot;Jodilerks dela Cruz, Employee of the Month&quot; and Carlo Fajarda&#x27;s &quot;Suerte,&quot; as well as a documentary from Jewel Maranan, &quot;Tundo.&quot;</p><p>This will mark the world premiere of &quot;Smaller and Smaller Circles,&quot; a project first revealed in 2016 by producers Tuko Film Productions and Buchi Boy Films. </p><p>It is based on Batacan&#x27;s Palanca-winning novel, first published in 2002 before being picked up and released internationally by New York-based publisher Soho Press in 2015.</p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/smallerandsmallercircles/videos/1169370146481077/" data-width="auto"> </div><p>A schedule for this year&#x27;s Busan International Film Festival has yet to be updated. </p><p>Filipino director Lav Diaz will be among the jury for New Currents, the festival&#x27;s main competition section that is designed to introduce up-and-coming Asian filmmakers. </p><p>It is headed by acclaimed American director Oliver Stone, and includes Bahman Ghobadi (&quot;No One Knows About Persian Cats&quot;) from Iran, France&#x27;s Agnes Godard, and Jang Sun-woo of Korea. </p>
