MANILA - When the so-called "audio scandal" of Daniel Padilla triggered speculation about the teen heartthrob's relationship with Jasmine Curtis-Smith, the actress said she clarified matters with her boyfriend, singer Sam Concepcion, before the controversy got out of hand.

In the secretly recorded audio clip, supposedly of Padilla's conversation with a number of friends, a voice tagged as the actor's seemed to express excitement about receiving a text message.

Just before the end the 90-second clip, which went viral over the weekend, a voice is heard saying: "Wala na si Patrick. Wala nang mangugulo sa 'kin. Wala na 'yung tropa ni Sam."

This triggered speculation that the "Sam" being referred to in the supposed "scandal" was Concepcion, who confirmed his relationship with Curtis-Smith in April.

Speaking exclusively with ABS-CBN News' Gretchen Fullido on Monday, Curtis-Smith admitted she and Padilla had been communicating through text message about the condition of her father, James Ernest.

The Australian lawyer underwent surgery last September 15. Although Curtis-Smith and her older sister, Anne, did not detail the reason for the operation, both actresses asked their supporters to pray that their father will have a "healthier heart."

Curtis-Smith explained that Padilla, her co-star in the upcoming biopic "Biopic Ang Unang Pangulo," was aware of her father's operation because she was admittedly distraught while on the set of the movie.

Since the clip started to circulate online, Curtis-Smith admitted she has been getting criticisms from people claiming to be fans of Padilla and his onscreen partner Kathryn Bernardo.

It didn't take long before Curtis-Smith clarified the situation to Concepcion.

"As soon as it (audio clip) came out, we spoke about it and we made sure to understand each other where it may have been a little, I guess, blurred -- the lines between what happened and what was just magnified through opinions of commenters," the actress said.

She added: "In the end, we still have good communication and he was there to support me last night at my premiere, so obviously there's nothing negative with us. We just try to work around things."

Curtis-Smith, who is set to co-star with Concepcion in a TV series, explained that it helps they constantly communicate and so manage avoiding unnecessary conflicts.

"Iyon naman ang maganda sa amin, eh. We always make sure that at the end of the day, there is communication between us, so that we're not lost with where we're going," she said.
