MANILA — “The Killer Bride” isn’t letting up on its succession of twists, with the latest revolving around the gender identity of a major character.

In the September 25 episode of the primetime series, the vengeful Camila (Maja Salvador) discovered a long-kept secret of Juan Felipe (James Blanco), whom she has long suspected of being involved in her “death.”

Camila’s spying on Juan Felipe proved fruitful: she managed to record an intimate moment between the Las Espadas mayor and his male aide.

Camila timed the release of the video during a press conference held by Juan Felipe, resulting in a scandal that forced him to admit the truth to his wife, Alice (Lara Quigaman), and son, Luis (Sam Concepcion) — albeit violently.

The aftermath of the revelation saw different reactions to Juan Felipe being gay. Foremost was from Alice, whose anguish was rooted in being betrayed, and the belated realization as to why she never felt enough for Juan Felipe.

Luis similarly had a moment of bitter clarity: Juan Felipe had always been cold, and even aggressive, because never wanted the life he had, but always had to keep up appearances for the sake of his reputation.

In the rival household of the dela Cuestas, Antonia (Jobelle Salvador) was amused by the turn of events, but her granddaughter, Luna, was quick to point out that the reason gay men such as Juan Felipe have difficulty “coming out” is because of judgmental people like her, with antiquated values.

Juan Felipe is the latest dela Torre to be victimized by Camila, as a way of taking revenge on the family whom she once believed would protect her, but ultimately betrayed her.
