Hiatus over, Alice Dixson, 50, ready for showbiz again, starting with 'Nuuk'

Sporting a short bob and letting go of her long mane, Dixson took a six-month hiatus to rest and spend time with her family.However, she recently assured that the public will be seeing more of her back on TV and even in the movies. She also recently switched to digital and has joined the vlogging world.“I like sharing what I do when I travel,” Dixson said. “I do my travel vlogs to help our local tourism and show the people this is what it’s like here in the Philippines.”Dixson recently graced the special screening of her forthcoming film, “Nuuk,” which she topbills with Aga Muhlach. Shot in the capital of Greenland, in the Kingdom of Denmark, “Nuuk” is the first Filipino film to be included in the line-up of the 5th Danish Film Festival that runs from October 9 to 13 at the Shangri-La Plaza Red Carpet Cinema.Dixson and Muhlach finished “Nuuk” back in April 2017. However, Muhlach had other commitments and Dixson was also working with another production as well as a TV show“We couldn’t do the finale until a few months ago,” she lamented. “We had to do a three-day shoot in Dakak (Zamboanga). Once we wrapped up, the film went into post-production.”A psycho-thriller with a twist, “Nuuk” is directed by Veronica Velasco and boasts a very unique setting for a Filipino movie. To begin with, Nuuk is the capital of Greenland and an autonomous territory of Denmark. “Nuuk” is also the first Filipino film ever to be shot in Greenland.<figure class="op-interactive"><iframe height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_KItl0xU1-Q?enablejsapi=1" width="560"></iframe></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more in <a href="//www.iwantv.com.ph/">iWantv</a> or <a href="//tfc.tv/">TFC.tv</a></div>“For me, making ‘Nuuk’ was scary,” Velasco admitted. “I was afraid not because of the many unknowns faced filming in a sub-zero environment, but because we were attempting to make an intelligent film.”Dixson plays Elaiza Svendsen, a Filipina immigrant in Nuuk married to a Danish guy who had just died. She gets left behind by her only son, Karl (Ujarneq Fleischer), so she tries to cope using the lethal combination of alcohol and drugs. Muhlach is Mark Alvarez, a fellow Filipino fighting the loneliness of living alone in a cold, isolated and far-away city.“It was quite a challenge doing this film,” Dixson shared. “Every individual in the production has his respective story while filming in ice. I lived in Canada for quite sometime. The culture is very similar to the native Indians in Canada.“The people in Nuuk are Nomadic. They live in igloos. They’re like people of the north. They hunt. They fish. They live very simple lives. The city is very small. A lot of it, we covered in the film.”Fortunately for the production, there is a “very strong” Filipino community in Greenland. “The entire production and the stars want to thank all of them,” Dixson acknowledged. “When they were around, it didn’t feel that we were far away from home.”From the time the cast and crew landed in the small airport in Nuuk – even smaller than Boracay – Dixson was really thankful for the help of the Filipino community in the area.“All of our principal photography was completed abroad,” Dixson offered. “All that we had to finish here was a three-day shoot in the Philippines. We had a problem with my and Aga’s schedules. They were together in “Joey Boy Munti” (1991) and “Sinungaling Mong Puso” (1992), both directed by the late Maryo J. de los Reyes. “I worked with Aga a long time ago,” Dixson said. “That time was our Regal days in the &#x27;90s. He is always an actor to reckon with. I remember his performances in the movies of the late Maryo J. de los Reyes, napakahusay niya.”No wonder, it wasn’t hard to get Dixson’s nod to work with Muhlach again when “Nuuk” was offered to her. “There was a bond already because Aga and I grew up together in this business,” she said. “We had a lot to bond about and to talk about. And I also know Charlene (Gonzalez). Marami kaming samahan ni Aga together. It wasn’t difficult to work with him again.”“Nuuk” will be screened at the 5th Danish Film Festival on October 9, 12 and 13. The regular playdate of “Nuuk” is on November 6.In December, Dixson is set to participate in Charity Bowl, a benefit for the Kalipay Negrense in Bacolod at the SM Megamall Bowling Center. She personally chose that beneficiary since she loves orphanages.“If all the children there could all be my beneficiary, I will do that,” Dixson declared. You can sponsor a child or you can adopt children from the orphanage.”At present, the actress is fostering three boys – 10, 13 and 16. “I sponsor them, including their education,” she granted. “I am visiting them next month and I will show that in my travel vlog.”The fulfillment that she gets in helping young children is simply incomparable for Dixson. She got the inspiration of helping young children from her father, James, who adopted a boy when he was in his 50s.“All he wanted to do was made a difference in somebody’s life,” Dixson said of her dad. “That was instilled on me and I try to do my part now. I have a brother whom I love very much.”
