Concert recap: GOT7 ends 2019 world tour with sold-out Manila show

GOT7, one of K-pop’s global superstars, pulled out all the stops in their nearly-three hour show, serving up their chart-topping songs and hard-hitting choreography in front of frenzied Filipino fans who waited for three long years for such treat. The crowd was as impressive. The arena was a sea of lime-green lightsticks, with fans dancing and shouting fanchants in synchronized perfection. Standouts from the album “Flight Log: Arrival” followed, with the members jamming on fan favorites “Out” and “Never Ever.”A GOT7 concert will not be complete without the group’s crazed banter and interaction with fans. “Are you guys doing good?” It’s been a while. GOT7 is back,” Jackson yelled as fans gave a thunderous cheer. It was both hilarious and sweet seeing how the boys tried their best to understand some of the Pinoy fans&#x27; chants like &quot;sana all,&quot; &quot;sample,&quot; and &quot;walang uuwi.&quot;And who said K-pop boy groups are just for girls? It was an awestruck moment to listen live to JB’s “Ride” followed by Youngjae’s “Gravity,” with both songs being self-produced. Next was a thrilling performance by “Amerithaikong” composed of Mark, who’s from the US, Bambam who’s from Thailand, and Jackson who’s from Hong Kong. The unit pumped up the crowd with “God Has Returned” and “Mañana.” Yugyeom and Jinyoung took over the stage, seducing fans with their sleek dance moves. “He’s already a dancing machine,” Jinyoung said, praising the group’s “maknae” (youngest member). “Many fans forget about my career before but I’m a dancer, too,” he added. Another highlight of the evening was the group’s performance of a remix of their 2014 hit “Stop It, Stop It.” Produced by Bambam, the new version has a sexier and darker feel, with a jaw-dropping dance break. GOT7 acknowledged that they intended the show to start a little darker, echoing the theme in their recent album of “light to dark” and “security to insecurity.”Showing their vulnerability, things got a little mellow with “1°”, “Sign” and “I Am Me” — songs about being afraid, uncertainty, and self-identity.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/news/10/29/got3.jpg"/><figcaption>GOT7 during their dramatic performance of &quot;1°&quot; from the album &quot;SpinningTop: Between Security &amp; Insecurity.&quot; </figcaption></figure></div>The boys picked up the pace once again with some of their most iconic hits, including “Just Right” and “Lullaby.” But nothing seemed to beat the undeniable anthem of the group, “Hard Carry,” which sent fans to a fever-pitch dance mode. Things went sentimental as the boys prepared to say goodbye with “Miracle.” Tears flowed, both from the members and fans, after a surprise video prepared by fans, where Pinoy ahgases recalled their three-year longing for a concert to be held in the Philippines. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en">GOT7 turns emotional after watching a surprise video prepared by Pinoy ahgases. Promise... The passion that you guys showed tonight is just another level,&quot; Jackson said. No doubt, the Manila concert was a fitting close to GOT7’s 2019 world tour, which included stops in various Asian countries, America, and even Europe. Owe it to the sentimentality of Filipinos, the vulnerability between security and insecurity to which the whole show was inspired from was captured perfectly. But with the passion GOT7 and ahgases showed that night, the group and the fandom are set to fly higher than ever for sure.
