Enzo Almario, a former child singer, reintroduced himself as a queer singer when he joined 'Tawag ng Tanghalan' this Tuesday

Enzo Almario got his first taste of fame when he was just nine.

His stint as a member of a 2006 singing group made him a child star, but he soon found that he needed to sort himself out first --confusion over his sexuality, attitude problems-- and quit.

Now, more assured of himself and ready to claim his second shot at the spotlight, Almario reintroduced himself on "It's Showtime" this Tuesday for the first time as a queer singer.

He explained that he joined "Tawag ng Tanghalan" because he wants to inspire young LGBT members still struggling with their identities through his "voice and wisdom."

"Mas credible ako na mag-inspire ng tao [kasi] naging totoo ako sa sarili ko," he said after performing his cover of "Stay with Me" by Sam Smith, himself an openly gay singer.

Almario, who even brought along his boyfriend and father to watch him perform, was declared the contest's daily winner, but failed to dethrone the defending champion.

On his Twitter account, he wrote: "Hindi man pinalad na masungkit ang golden mikropono ay para na rin akong nanalo sa mga taong na-inspire sa aking kuwento."

He also clarified the meaning of "queer" and its difference from gay or bisexual, explaining that he just did not want to be labeled as either of those because "our gender identity and expression is ever-changing."
