MANILA — Singer Morissette on Monday issued a public apology over her controversial departure from a concert guesting minutes before her scheduled turn on stage, prompting an emotional tirade from producer Jobert Sucaldito.

The “Akin Ka Na Lang” hitmaker released her statement via Instagram Stories, five days after the November 6 incident.

“Took some time to process things despite the schedules before me, but with much prayer and as I have never done this before, please let me start by saying sorry,” she wrote.

Morissette addressed Sucaldito, and the talent manager’s ward, showbiz newcomer Kiel Alo, who was staging his birthday concert that night at the Music Museum.

“What I’ve done was out of character but I still do take full responsibility,” she said.

Viral videos showed Morissette walking out of the venue, just as Sucaldito announced, mid-show, that she would no longer be able to perform as scheduled.

Morissette’s business manager, David Cosico, said the sudden exit was due to a “medical emergency.”

According to Sucaldito, Cosico said Morissette could no longer sing because she “felt attacked by the media,” referring to the singer’s backstage interview with ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual.

The interview, which can be viewed in full here, touched on Morissette’s participation in Alo’s concert, her tips to the aspiring star, and the recent headlines about Morissette’s ties with her family.

Morissette’s father, Amay Amon, had earlier publicly disapproved of her relationship with singer Dave Lamar, in a series of tweets which went viral.

In her statement on Monday, Morissette explained: “I guess I was also triggered by the surprise interview minutes before performing, regarding the issues between me and my family. This private matter is something I purposely did not want to openly share for fear that healing might not prosper between us. The moment got the best of me, and it wasn’t fair to those who expected me to come out on stage as one of the concert’s guests that evening.”

“I also want to apologize to Sir Mario Dumaual who, I was told, felt bad about the situation. I understand completely that he was only doing his job and values it as much as I do mine,” she added.

Morissette went on to ask her followers for prayers “as I journey towards healing, my family’s, and the people around me.”

“I am overwhelmed though by those who reached out to me with love and support, not just these past couple of days but earlier on this year, during this particularly painful season of my life. I appreciate all of you,” she said.

Amid the controversy, fans of Morissette expressed concern for her mental health, with some advising the 23-year-old performer to take a break.

“I also want to bring light to the concern of many towards my emotional and spiritual well-being. As best as I can, I strive to achieve a sense of balance and stability. I feel for all those who are going through the same thing and just want to remind you, as I have been reminded, that we are not alone,” Morissette wrote.

“As Christmas is fast approaching, I am also reminded by the coming of our Lord and I am grateful for His love, kindness, forgiveness, and guiding hand in my life. Wishing you all and your families a happy blessed Christmas!” she said.
