MANILA – Iñigo Pascual held back his tears during an event for the Disney-Pixar movie “Coco” on Wednesday.

The son of actor Piolo Pascual was chosen to record the Philippine version of “Coco,” which he described as a movie about family and fulfilling one’s dreams.

While he was cheerful during most of the program, Pascual paused for a moment as he remembered his friend, Hashtags member Franco Hernandez, who passed away last week.

“I love the song,” he said of the theme song of “Coco,” titled “Remember Me.”

“Ever since I started my singing career, gusto ko talagang makagawa ng impact sa generation ko. I wanted to leave an imprint na masasabi ko na if ever I do leave already,” he stopped as he fought back his tears. “One of my friends passed away.”

In an interview with the media shortly after the launch, Pascual said “Remember Me” reminded him of Hernandez.

“One of our friends in Cornerstone and one of our brothers, Franco, passed away. And the song kind of reminded me of him, and kind of made me realize a lot of things,” he said. “I could say that Franco left a very good impact on all of us. He’s going to be forever in our hearts.”

“Masaya ako na nakilala ko siya. [Because of him] the song gave me more meaning,” he added.

Describing Hernandez, Pascual continued: “He’s very sincere. Isa siya sa mga taong hindi mo makikitaan ng simangot, hindi mo makikitaan ng pagod. Laging nakangiti, palaging nangangamusta. He’s going to be remembered for being that smiling face, that guy that was genuine, that guy that cared about everybody, that guy that wanted to make everyone feel loved.”

The music video for “Coco” featuring Pascual will be released on November 17, with the Disney-Pixar movie coming out in cinemas nationwide on November 22.

Pascual said he is deeply honored to be chosen to sing “Remember Me,” saying it is something that he will proudly share with his future children and grandchildren.

“The fact that I was able to do something for Disney is already a big deal for me. It’s always been a dream of mine to do something Disney-related. I grew up as a Disney kid,” he said.

“To be able to work on a project na may tatak Disney is something na ang sarap sa pakiramdam, and it is something that I can tell my kids in the future… I bet they’re going to watch this movie. It’s a great feeling.”
