MANILA — “Binalot mo ako sa ginto, pero buong buhay ko nakakadena ako sa mga kasinungalingan mo.”

These were the fuming words of Romina (Beauty Gonzales) as she confronted her husband Robert (Albert Martinez) with the truth he had long kept secret, and which she now finally uncovered, in the Tuesday episode of “Kadenang Ginto.”

The man whom she believed saved her from a tragic past was, in fact, the cause of it. Robert was Romina’s unknown assailant that resulted in Cassie’s (Francine Diaz) birth, a DNA test that confirmed her worst fear showed.

The discovery just came minutes before their renewal of vows, with Romina crumbling in her daughter’s arms. She, however, pushed through with the wedding, trading her silver dress for a gold gown that marked her turn as a vengeful bride.

Instead of exchanging vows, Romina landed slap after slap on Robert’s face, before declaring to their guests, “Si Robert Mondragon, itong taong nirirespeto ninyong lahat, isa siyang rapist!”

“Nagustuhan mo ba ang suot ko?” she then asked Robert, referring to her gold gown.

“Inisip ko kasi hindi na bagay sa akin ang puti. Ginto ang bagay sa akin — ginto na binalot mo sa akin para pagtakpan ang dumi ng budhi mo. Dahil bago tayo kinasal, dinungisan mo ang pagkatao ko. Niyurakan mo ang pagkababae ko,” she said.

“Akala ko nakaharap ko na lahat ng demonyo sa buhay ko. Pero mismong si Satanas pala ang pinakasalan ko. Sisiguraduhin ko na pagsisisihan mo na nalaman ko ang totoo. Panahon na para maramdaman mo ang bagsik ko, ang babaeng niyurakan mo,” Romina said, before leaving the venue.

Running after his wife, Robert asked whether she could find it in her heart to forgive.

In a first in the series, Romina uttered lines that alluded to the title “Kadenang Ginto,” as she rejected Robert’s plea: “Ginahasa mo ako! Oo, binuo mo ako, pero ikaw din pala ang sumira sa akin. Binalot mo ako sa ginto, pero buong buhay ko nakakadena ako sa mga kasinungalingan mo.”

A preview for upcoming episodes shows Romina and Cassie coming to terms with the bitter truth, as they try to start a life apart from Robert after 17 years in the Mondragon home.

The climactic scene on Tuesday is the latest pivotal turn in “Kadenang Ginto,” which has remained the No. 1 television show in its time slot, on top of being a social media favorite, since its October 2018 debut.
