<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/entertainment/10/03/bea-gerald-100317.jpg"/><figcaption>Gerald Anderson and Bea Alonzo attend the 2017 Star Magic Ball together. <em>Screenshot/Hidalgo Portraits</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA — Gerald Anderson credits his friends and family as a source of strength, following the controversy surrounding his breakup with Bea Alonzo.</p><p>“Ganoon talaga, you just have to roll with the punches,” the 30-year-old actor said, referring to what he described as a “colorful” year.</p><p>Anderson was speaking with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe on the sidelines of the recent Christmas special of the network at the Araneta Coliseum.</p><p>Anderson, who was recently appointed as a goodwill ambassador of Philippine Youth-KASAMA, added that focusing on his advocacy has helped him recover after the intrigues that came with his separation from Alonzo.</p><p>“At the end of the day, huwag mo kalimutan ang sarili mo, kung sino ka talaga, your core. The opinions of others do not define you,” he said.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TjRxb9-DHAw?enablejsapi=1" width="560"></iframe></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more in <a href="//www.iwantv.com.ph/">iWantv</a> or <a href="//tfc.tv/">TFC.tv</a></div><p>Anderson became the subject of criticism, at least among fans of Alonzo, when the actress revealed that he “just started not talking to me” after three years as a couple.</p><p>At the time, Alonzo appeared to hint, through her visible Instagram activities, that Anderson’s “Between Maybes” co-star Julia Barretto was a factor in the separation.</p><p>Anderson and Barretto have denied being romantically involved numerous times, but that hasn’t stopped the spread of rumors linking them. One such rumor involves supposed matching bracelets worn by the two.</p><p>Asked whether there is truth to that speculation, Anderson said: <br/>“No. Right now, I’m just focused on ‘yung mga gusto kong gawin… Ako, I want to focus on helping others also.”</p><p>He also denied he has a “love life” at this point, saying he would rather devote his attention towards work and the causes he supports.</p>
