'Naglamigan!' Gasps as wrong Denise mentioned in 'Showtime' episode

In a moment that drew both gasps and laughs on Friday (October 11), Vice Ganda asked a "Kalokalike" contestant impersonating Denise Laurel how well she knows Deniece Cornejo — a mistake that mixed up the names of the actress and the controversial detainee.

"How well do you know Deniece Cornejo?" Vice Ganda asked the contestant, Kyla Rose Mazaredo, elicting audible reactions from the studio and her co-hosts.

"Iba 'yun, Meme!" Mazaredo said.

Laurel, who happened to sit as one of the "Kalokalike" judges for the day, then approached host Vhong Navarro to invite him for a hug, in reference to his tumultuous legal battle with Cornejo.

"Naglamigan!" the comedian quipped, before carrying on with hosting duties alongside Navarro.

In the most recent development of the case, Cornejo and her co-accused Cedric Lee, Ferdinand Guerrero, and Simeon Raz were found guilty of serious illegal detention by a Taguig court in May 2024.

A year prior, in March 2023, Navarro was acquitted by the Supreme Court in the rape and acts of lasciviousness case filed by Cornejo.
