"'Whiplash' is about not being stuck in a boundary and moving forward confidently with our own standard," member Ningning said during a subtitled YouTube livestream held an hour prior to the EP's release.

The EP features six tracks, including the lead single of the same title, which boasts a club-ready EDM sound.

Similar to the album's message, the title track "is about having our own standard and being the game changer," Winter said.

"Whiplash" arrives nearly five months since the group dropped the album "Armageddon," which featured the pre-release single "Supernova" that reportedly topped South Korean music charts.

Earlier this month, the group also released the members' solo tracks, which they have been performing for their ongoing concert tour "Synk: Parallel Line."

Debuting in November 2020, aespa is known for its futuristic concepts and having virtual counterparts for its members Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning. The group's notable singles include "Black Mamba," "Next Level," "Spicy" and "Drama," among others.
