Such is the case with music icon Gary Valenciano and his son, concert director Paolo Valenciano.The two first collaborated in 2012 for “On Higher Ground.” Two years after, Paolo directed his father’s sold-out <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(34, 34, 34);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:start;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">“Arise” concert. After that, other memorable shows “Gary V: Back At The Museum,” “Gary V Presents,” and “Gary V’s Love in Motion” were staged.Their latest collaboration “One Last Time,” which, according to Valenciano, is his last major solo concert in large venues like arenas, will take place on April 26-27 at the Mall of Asia Arena with guests Gloc-9 and Ebe Dencel. “The advantage is — hindi lang dahil anak ko siya — he’s musical eh. To work with the director who sees and hears things the way I do, that’s exactly what every artist I think needs na nakakasalo sa ideas na gusto,” he told ABS-CBN News.“And he’s courageous. He’s not scared to tell me na, ‘Dad, that’s not gonna work. Dad, maybe you can lessen this. Dad, don’t talk too much here. Dad, I got emotional there ha.’ I like working with people like that. When you have all these attributes as part of who you are that makes working with me very creative and productive.”During his intimate presscon, the music icon also talked about how hands-on he is when picking his clothes for the concert.“I’m very hands-on. I like to wear what I wear. May nagsabi rin sa akin before, noong nagsa-soundcheck, ‘Sir, grabe talaga ‘yung mga sinusuot mo noh.’ The thing is I’m not driven by brands, I’m just driven by looks. If it looks good and I feel good in it, game. Kasi may ibang brands na kapag suot ko naman, I don’t feel comfortable in it. I’m very hands-on especially ‘pag dating sa shows. I usually wear dark colors. I like wearing outfits na kapag gumalaw ako, gumagalaw din ‘yung damit ko,” he explained.Asked about the concept of his upcoming concert, Valenciano said, “When people see the concert, I want people to remember me as somebody who gave his all but there’s so much more. I’m personally the one who chose the pictures and even the poster has a background story.”Another interesting story Valenciano shared during his sit-down interview with the media were the back stories of his hit songs “Sana Maulit Muli” and “Warrior Is A Child.” On his Tagalog ballad, he said: “Nahanap ko ‘yung original English version (written by wife Angeli Pangilinan) which was written for Julie Vega when she passed away. When it was Julie&#x27;s song, it was ‘Why’d you close your eyes too soon, why’d you leave us all behind.’ I promise the parents (of Julie) that I would never release an English version kasi I don’t wanna make money out of her death. But when the Universal Records said, ‘Wala ka bang ballad that you make or that you can come out with na Tagalog.’ So my wife said, ‘Give me that song of Julie and I’ll make it Tagalog.’ I said, ‘Hindi puwede kasi that’s about kamatayan. Sabi niya, ‘No. I’ll make a whole new set of lyrics.’”Why he dedicated it to Vega, he erxplained, “I was just moved by the picture that I saw sa tabloid. The picture was she was on the bed and the picture of FPJ (Fernando Poe Jr.) was beside her bed. I was just moved.”About his hit song “Warrior Is A Child” and how it became an anthem, he said: “It was the second anniversary or the third anniversary of the People Power and Francis Magalona was still alive at that time. Francis came out and was doing his rap. I came out and I just felt like I wanted to do the song &#x27;Warrior Is A Child.&#x27; According to sources, Rico Yan told his handler, ‘Kapag may nangyari sa akin, ito ‘yung gusto kong marinig [na song] ng tao sa pinakahuling service. Sa last service raw, he wants that song. After I did that song, the song became popular. Maybe siya ‘yung naging tool because the song was meant to be heard by the people.
