ABS-CBN International hosts special screening of 'The Cleaning Lady’

Elodie Yung is back to reprise her role as undocumented Filipino-Cambodian Thony Dela Rosa in the primetime action drama series “The Cleaning Lady.”

ABS-CBN international has partnered with FOX to host a special advance screening of the Cleaning Lady’s Season 3 premiere, bringing with them a special list of influencers to meet the cast and crew.

“The acting is incredible, the story line,” said actress and singer Mica Javier. “I’m an action drama girl. It’s a good combination of all of those things.”

She added: “I love that it’s not just Asians, there are also Latino, Asian, Filipino, and also Americans combined all intertwined. You get to see the difference and diversity with each culture.”

Javier along with her husband singer songwriter Jay R were among the influencers to get the first look.

For Jay R who grew up in Los Angeles, the show hits close to home with its multicultural story lines.

“I love it. It was really cool,” he said. “I loved all the Tagalog in it. No captions because we can understand everything. I even loved the Mexicans, the Spanish in it. [We were] trying to figure out what the words are because we’re LA locals we speak a little bit of Spanish.”

"The Cleaning Lady," which first premiered in 2022, follows an undocumented doctor turning to the criminal underworld as she tries to find medical treatment for her son.

From dangerous cartels, missing characters to deported Filipino family members, the stakes have gotten higher in season three.

The show’s new season and its Filipino stories come at a time when Asian voices and the fight for representation on screen are louder than ever.

“It's incredible,” said Yung. “I am so privileged to be part of a movement where we do push forward diversity but they do it in a very clever way. Those characters are nuanced and so I support that narrative and these types of stories.”

While many primetime and streaming shows have quickly come and gone, including Asian-inspired stories, “The Cleaning Lady” has proven itself to be one of the surviving television series.

It’s a feat that its executive producer, Miranda Kwok, described as “mind blowing.”

“It’s nothing I ever imagined or expected like when I was developing this show,” she shared. “I was just developing a show that I would love, characters that I would want to watch, stories that I would want to tell honestly, never thought it would make it to air, never mind a third season.”

This run has given Filipinos actors more chances to show off their talents, like JB Tadena who starts off the new season with a shocking revelation opposite Martha Milan’s character Fiona.

“There are a lot of great shows out there and there’s a lot still coming out,” said Tadena. “To be a part of this one, specifically there’s a lot of Filipino culture [and] Latino culture in it, it’s very fun and exciting to profess that side of my life.”

With new characters ready to mix it up with returning stars, fans can tune in every Tuesday on FOX and on Hulu the following day to see where the twists and turns take them.
