MANILA -- TV and film director Jose Javier Reyes on Thursday took his oath of office as the new chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in front of Honorable Justice Mariflor Castillo at the Court of Appeals in Manila.

Reyes told ABS-CBN News that he was endorsed by outgoing FDCP chairman Tirso Cruz III when the latter submitted his resignation. Reyes, who served as technical consultant under Cruz, said the veteran actor wanted continuity especially with the projects that he has started.

"Let it be known lang. When he (Cruz) filed his resignation as chair of the FDCP, part of the resignation was the endorsement that I succeed him because we want to continue the programs that we have started. Sayang naman kung start from scratch na naman. His endorsement really really mattered a lot," Reyes said.

'The work has begun!' said Reyes, who after signing his appointment papers, will talk to the board of trustees of FDCP to discuss his current role as competition director of Cinemalaya, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Reyes is hoping he can be allowed to transition his exit from the film festival until August this year.
