<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1712749944114Rachel Alejandro Haji Alejandro .jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Singer and actress Rachel Alejandro weighed in on the debate about the Filipinos&#x27; sense of " utang="" na="" between="" parents="" and=""/></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA --Singer and actress Rachel Alejandro weighed in on the debate about the Filipinos&#x27; sense of &quot;utang na loob&quot; between parents and children.</p><p>This was after Dani Baretto trended on social media after she said on her podcast, “Hindi ka pwede magkaroon ng utang na loob sa iyong magulang.&quot;</p><p>In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the daughter of OPM legend Hajji Alejandro said, &quot;Kung iisipin mo siya as responsibilidad mo ang pagmamahal na &#x27;to dahil asawa ko &#x27;to or magulang ko &#x27;to na parang kung iisipin mo ay kasi responsibilidad ko or utang na loob ko ito sa magulang ko dahil inalagaan nila ako, pinag-aral nila ako and all that at pinagtapos nila ako na kailangan ngayon alagaan ko naman sila as they&#x27;re getting older, I don&#x27;t see it that way.&quot;</p><p>&quot;Kasi lalo na tayong mga Pilipino, I see it as love because you are shown love and so you love them back. So hindi mo maatim sa budhi mo siguro na pabayaan sila,&quot; she added.</p><p>&quot;I think of it as our culture as Filipino. I don&#x27;t think it as utang na loob, I think of it as love. And it&#x27;s the same kung hindi ka minamahal ng magulang mo, baka hindi mo rin sila ganun kamahal,&quot; the singer said.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yylpQC0BD9w?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>Looking back on her 31 years in the industry, Alejandro consider her fame as &quot;utang na loob&quot; to her father, who is now considered an icon in the local music industry.</p><p>&quot;Wala naman akong maisip na disadvantage (sharing the stage with her father) kasi it has been an advantage that I used. Talagang sinamantala ko na simula noong umpisa pa lang talaga when I was 12 years old na kinuha ako ni Kuya Germs (German Moreno) sa &#x27;That&#x27;s Entertainment&#x27; and that was because nga because of him. Siyempre nalaman niya (Kuya Germs) na kumakanta rin &#x27;yung anak ni Hajji,&quot; she said.</p><p>And as a daughter of a popular music artist, Alejandro doubled her efforts to find her own style in singing and performing on stage.</p><p>&quot;Kasi siyempre you will always compared to someone who&#x27;s such a big star and to this day, siyempre kahit na saan ako pumunta kahit sa America where I am based right now, I am still known as his daughter. Karamihan ng Pilipino na nakatira doon ng matagal na siyempre hanggang ngayon, ganun pa rin. In that sense &#x27;yun ang medyo mahirap,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;Mas nakakalamang &#x27;yung advantage because nga, nagkaroon ako ng magandang umpisa and the fact na talagang hindi ko madi-describe sa inyo &#x27;yung feeling at saya ng makasama mo ang tatay mo onstage at makasayaw at maka-duet, and it&#x27;s something that I will always be grateful for.&quot;</p><p>Rachel and Hajji Alejandro will share the stage anew in &quot;Noon At Ngayon&quot; on April 17 at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.  </p>
