After his scene-stealing role in “Nope,” Brandon Perea is back on the big screen with “Twisters.”

The follow-up to the 1996 film “Twister” stars a new generation of storm chasers who are just as dedicated to the thrill of facing the eye of the storm as they are about figuring out tornadoes to save lives and prevent destruction.

The 29-year-old actor, who grew up in Chicago to a Puerto Rican father and Filipino mother, reflected on his Hollywood career thus far.

"I have taken a lot of No's to get this one Yes," Perea said. "It's crazy getting the shock at the moment. I remember driving by Universal Studios when I first came out here and now I'm on the stage doing an interview for a summer movie for the second time."

He added: "This is insane to me. It does not get old. I realize that it is a privilege and that I am blessed. I am grateful to be here."

Perea was no stranger to the spotlight, having achieved success in his youth in breakdancing on roller skates. His mother, Maricar Cunanan, unwittingly helped start his interest in skating.

"My mom just wanted us to learn to balance," he said. "She would just hold us up on roller skates, funny enough. And then I really started breakdancing on roller skates when I was 10 years old and just kept working to become a pro and then I turned pro at 14. That's the youngest that someone's turned pro in that specific sport, breakdancing on roller skates."

In “Twisters,” he plays Boone, the right-hand man of Glen Powell’s character Tyler. Boone and the rest of Tyler’s crew are YouTube stars who fearlessly chase tornadoes. In Powell, Perea found an instant friend and a role model.

"He could be the busiest guy on the planet right now and he'll still answer a call or send a text back and just to make sure everything's okay," Perea said. "He's just so talented and committed to his craft and to telling stories and he's in love with it."

Perea, meanwhile, shared an unforgettable experience with Powell and leading lady Daisy Edgar-Jones.

"After the movie, Glen, Daisy, and I went to Oklahoma with one of our professional storm chasers," Perea said. "He took us on a safe route to try to see one and we ended up in some good storms. No tornado touchdown, but I will try next season."

For his Filipino fans, the Fil-Am star said: "Pinoy pride! Come watch Twisters. I appreciate the love throughout my entire journey - and Pinoy pride for life!"

"Twisters" is now out in theaters.
