In an impressive transition from acting to directing, Zoe Kravitz has made her directorial debut with the thought-provoking film "Blink Twice."

Known for her compelling on-screen performances, Kravitz now steps behind the camera to explore complex themes of power and societal expectations, with her fiancé, Channing Tatum, taking on a transformative and sinister role.

Kravitz wrote the script seven years ago, driven by personal experiences and stories she witnessed firsthand. The inspiration of the film also stems from the Me Too movement and the chilling realities surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s island. She highlights her desire to delve into the intricacies of power dynamics.

"I really wanted to explore power. It's such a complicated entity," she explained. "It's something that we all are kind of striving for. But it's kind of innately evil. Because in order to be on top, someone has to be on the bottom."

Kravitz’s exploration is particularly poignant in today's cultural climate, echoing the sentiments of the Me Too movement and the call for accountability.

"It's obviously very important to me. That's why I made the film. And I think what's interesting is, accountability is so important. if we want to heal, we have to educate people. And we have to find ways for them to understand why it's not okay," she emphasized. "This film is meant to try and shift the perspective a little bit, so that people can maybe understand a little bit more and clearer what it is we go through."

Channing Tatum, known for his charismatic roles like Magic Mike and Gambit, embraces a darker, more sinister character in "Blink Twice." The collaboration with his fiancé, Kravitz, was built on trust and mutual respect.

"We trust each other so much," Kravitz shared. "He was able to go to places that were complicated and difficult because he knew I was there to protect him and to guide him."

Working together was an amazing experience for both, allowing Tatum to explore new depths.“He's an incredible producer and a very smart storyteller. We built this character together. And I'm so, so proud and excited for people to see what he's capable of.” Kravitz praised, expressing excitement for audiences to witness this new facet of his talent.

Tatum himself noted that the film rekindled his passion for acting, showcasing the depth of their creative partnership.

BAFTA best actress Naomi Ackie, star of “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” portrays the role of Frida. Ackie offers audiences a deeply relatable character, reflecting the struggles many women face.

Kravitz elaborated: "We've all, as women, been told and have felt invisible. Being told to be invisible, to be less disruptive. That we're not deserving of attention or of power or comfort or wealth or luxury."

Frida's character resonates because she embodies these universal feelings. "I knew that when I was writing this part that I wasn't the only woman that has felt this way," Kravitz continued. "Naomi Ackie brought so much to the character. She's such a talented actress and just added so many layers to what was already a very complicated part."

Transitioning to directing proved to be a rewarding challenge for Kravitz. "I love being behind the camera," she shared. "Directing is way more tiresome. It's harder in terms of it's so time-consuming but I did enjoy not having to think about what I looked like. It was really freeing for me,” she joked.

For aspiring directors, Kravitz advises embracing creativity in moments of crisis. "Nothing will ever go the way it's supposed to go of what you think things were going to be.

The more you try and control art, the worse it is. And you have to let art show you what it wants to be. And listen to that." she noted.

As for her fans in the Philippines, Kravitz expressed gratitude and anticipation. "Thank you so much for your support. I hope you love the film," she said, hinting at a potential visit with Tatum to the Philippines in the future.

The film’s cast also includes Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan and Geena Davis.

"Blink Twice" is showing in Philippine cinemas on August 21.
