Emotional Oranges on making music as duo, writing song for NCT's Jaehyun

Photo by Ched Gatchalian, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — American R&amp;B duo Emotional Oranges visited the Philippines for the first time as part of their Asian tour.EO members Azad and Vali held their press conference, also a first for the duo, on Friday at Brunch Bureau in Makati.They said they had plenty of reasons to include Manila in their tour, especially Azad since his partner is a Filipina. &quot;My girlfriend&#x27;s a Pinay. My girl&#x27;s mom really wants us to come here,&quot; the male singer joked.&quot;We have a fanbase here. There was a request for us to come here, it&#x27;s a place we&#x27;ve never been. We just want to experience that with you guys and see if we could build a relationship,&quot; the female vocalist added.The duo performed on Saturday night at Apothem Manila in Poblacion, Makati. Their show is an intimate, R&amp;B house party featuring some of their hits like &quot;West Coast Love&quot;, &quot;Motion&quot;, and &quot;Personal&quot;.EO underscored how performing for a crowd does magic to their craft.&quot;When we&#x27;re live, the energy that our fans give us — it allows us to be explosive. with them. When we&#x27;re together, we perform differently but when we listen to them [fans], it brings us to a different place. He was eating a bag and I wrote it. It&#x27;s ridiculous. So that&#x27;s where the song came from and I was shocked that a K-pop artist wanted me to write about Cheetos.&quot;He also shared that they will feature Jaehyun in their next album &quot;Call It Off&quot; which will be released in 2025.<div>Being a duo</div>Apart from talking about their tour and music, the two also delved deeper on how their friendship and synergy helped essentially in producing music.&quot;The love that we have for each other is the kind of love we never had from others. I don&#x27;t think I had a friendship that last this long, this strong,&quot; Vali said.Azad and Vali said that while they make music in different ways, what remains similar is their shared passion fueled by their own inspirations.&quot;It&#x27;s different for every song. Some songs can take you 2 years, we finished &quot;She Got A Man&quot; in 2019 then we put it out in 2023. Sometimes you gotta wait for that burst of inspiration,&quot; the male producer said.&quot;Every song is very unique, especially with us. Sometimes we play a game where he&#x27;ll produce a track and play it for me for the first time while the mic is on. It&#x27;s just my natural reaction to the song, and what feels for me originally. Then we will sit down together and he&#x27;ll take different parts of the song that I just freestyle. We do that a lot,&quot; LA-based female singer stressed.The duo also mentioned that they often encounter arguments but it&#x27;s what makes them strong — they both like challenges and difficulties.<div>Making a name</div>EO emphasized that they want to be known as musicians who make simple, yet relatable music.&quot;There&#x27;s a sense of innocence in our name [Emotional Oranges] and that&#x27;s what you would also see in our shows. In our shows, you can see a mom bringing her 9-year old daughter, a gen Z couple, people in 20s and 30s. It speaks to our future kids, our parents — for me, personally that&#x27;s a dream to be able to make timeless music,&quot; Azad noted.For Vali, the word &quot;emotional&quot; in EO is a bridge for people from different walks of life.&quot;The word &#x27;emotional&#x27; is so simple, you can put it to anything and it will have a meaning. You can put it in a cup of water, a speaker — and everybody will feel it. It attaches itself to it,&quot; she realized.As to what song of EO would they dedicate to Filipino fans, Vali said &quot;Built That Way&quot; fits their audience the most since they were made just the way they are.Meanwhile, EO would like non-fans to try listening to their track &quot;Wrong Hands&quot;.&quot;&#x27;Wrong Hands&#x27; is one of the most fun songs to perform. It reminds me of everything I love about the 90s. It&#x27;s spontaneous in a friendly way— sexy in a passionate way. You get everything you need from that song,&quot; Azad explained.After their Manila stop, EO will also visit Indonesia and South Korea.<div></div>
