Promising Filipino-Korean singer-songwriter Joshua Kim has set his sights on conquering the local music scene with the release of his much-anticipated debut EP, &quot;Alone in Melbourne.&quot;Known for his soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Kim has been making waves in indie venues across Manila such as SaGuijo and Jess &amp; Pats, captivating audiences with his raw talent and authentic storytelling. His journey as a musician took a significant leap forward with the launch of &quot;Alone In Melbourne;&quot; a six-track EP entirely penned by him.As he continues to build momentum with the single; and his captivating live performances, he is poised to make a lasting impact on the local music landscape, promising listeners an authentic and introspective musical journey.Kim has been winning over audiences with his poignant lyrics and captivating voice. Most recently, he served as the support act for renowned acoustic artist Paolo Santos&#x27;s concert at Wicked Dogs BGC, earning acclaim for his engaging stage presence and musical prowess.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1722834849946JOSHUA KIM (3).jpg" style="width:633px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div>Music runs in the blood</div>Kim started playing piano at the age of five, but he truly felt the joy of music when he joined the high school choir at Philippine Science High School. The sweet harmonies he and his co-members made together and the rush of performing in front of audiences propelled him to keep performing.His love for music and performing, he credits to his uncle Inando Cuñada, who is an amazing singer and the lead singer of the &#x27;90s band Civil Eyes (&quot;Sana Naman&quot; and &quot;Please Don’t Go&quot;). His aunt Camilla and uncle Raul Galves were also part of the UP Singing Ambassadors.Though his parents work in technology and always encourage him to follow in their footsteps, he finds joy and makes a living through writing and performing, and this is what he loves to do.&quot;That’s why I’m working so hard to keep this music career [going] strong, despite my job as a software engineer,&quot; Kim said.<div>Biggest musical influences</div>&quot;My biggest inspirations would have to be Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles. They taught me to make the most of every day, live in the moment, and cherish the little things. Mraz influenced his jazzy but chill guitar and vocal style, and Bareilles made him love bouncy and hard-hitting piano parts,&quot; Kim said.&quot;I love these two, as well as John Mayer, because they don’t just write about love, but life, internal struggle, and everyday moments.&quot;Inspired by his personal experiences during a solitary job assignment in Melbourne, the EP delves deep into themes of self-discovery, self-love, and the complexities of relationships. Each track promises to take listeners on an emotional journey, resonating with those who appreciate music that speaks directly to the heart.One day, he&#x27;d definitely like to collaborate with Laufey, the Icelandic singer and musician who achieved prominence in the early 2020s for her success as a jazz-inspired pop artist.Kim said her voice mesmerized him from Laufey&#x27;s first YouTube video he saw (&quot;Sunny Side of the Street&quot;), and have looked up to her ever since.<div>Academic achiever, too!</div>Apart from being a singer-songwriter, Kim&#x27;s a software engineer specializing in an AI-powered tensor search engine. &quot;People never believe me when I tell them, but it’s the truth. I guess it’s the left brain in me, balancing out the right brain that makes all the music.&quot;Beyond his musical achievements, Kim is also a distinguished academic achiever, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in Computer Science. His disciplined approach to academics and music has undoubtedly shaped his unique perspective as an artist.His recent performances have further solidified his rising status in the music scene -- drom a stellar showcase at ToyCon 2024 to a soulful set at Fète de la Musique&#x27;s acoustic stage, and a memorable stint at the Hally Universe event held at the University of the Philippines,&quot;If I had to pick one theme, it’d be uncertainty. My generation is going through a shared struggle right now: the search for meaning. As we leave the university, there’s such a rush to find our place in the world -- to make up our minds on dreams, life plans, careers, and love.&quot;As I enter my quarter-life crisis, I just want to say that I still have no idea what I’m doing, and I guess that’s okay. My songs remind us that we’re all trying to figure this &#x27;life&#x27; thing out together.&quot;
