Ganiel Krishnan, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Actor Carlo Aquino. <em>Ganiel Krishnan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- Carlo Aquino&#x27;s latest role requires a deep understanding and careful portrayal of his character. </p><p>Aquino will star in the much-awaited Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean drama series &quot;It&#x27;s Okay to Not Be Okay&quot; along with Anne Curtis and Joshua Garcia. There, he takes on the challenging role of Matmat, an adult on the autism spectrum.</p><p>For Aquino, the role of Matmat is one of the most demanding of his career -- bothy physically and mentally.</p><p>&quot;Ito mahirap, kasi series, so parang six months ko siyang gagawin,&quot; he explained.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/5/17/carlo-aquino-joshua-garcia-anne-curtis-team-up-for-it-s-okay-to-not-be-okay-ph-adaptation-1939">READ: Carlo Aquino, Joshua Garcia, Anne Curtis team up for &#x27;It&#x27;s Okay to Not Be Okay&#x27; PH adaptation</a></div><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/08/11/20/netflix-review-its-okay-to-get-hooked-on-risky-its-okay-to-not-be-okay">READ: Netflix review: It&#x27;s okay to get hooked on risky &#x27;It&#x27;s Okay to Not Be Okay&#x27;</a></div><p>To prepare for the role, Aquino underwent a three-day immersion at a school for adults on the spectrum, along extensive workshops led by veteran actress Anna Fileo.</p><p>&quot;They had me do a three-day immersion sa school ng adults with autism, tapos pinag-workshop nila ako with Ms. Anna Fileo. Ang daming preparations,&quot; said Aquino.</p><p>The physical demands of playing Matmat also took a toll on Aquino.</p><p>&quot;Grabe, mentally, physically demanding si Matmat... every take pawis talaga ako,&quot; he said, adding that wearing a wig and jacket while constantly moving added another challenge to the role.</p><p>But he embraced the challenges, knowing the importance of representing autism accurately and sensitively.</p><p>&quot;Dapat kasi, magbibigay ka ng knowledge sa mga tao,&quot; Aquino said. &quot;Minsan kasi akala nila, baliw. Dapat mahalin ko sila, &#x27;yung may autism, para magampanan ko ng mas maayos.&quot;</p><p>The role has impacted Aquino personally, as he sometimes finds himself unintentionally carrying over Matmat&#x27;s mannerisms into his daily life. His wife, actress Charlie Dizon, has occasionally caught him in character, even outside of work. </p><p>&quot;Minsan nasisita ako ni Charlie na ‘love, yung turo mo si Matmat yan,&#x27; Sa expression, bitbit ko siya talaga eh.
