Filmmaker Rey Coloma shares his love for cinema

<p>Director Rey Coloma was recently honored with the Diamond Award at Wallachia International Film Festival in Bucharest, Romania.</p><p>This festival aims to discover the directors, screenwriters, and photographers of the new millennium and award their fresh, out of the box ideas. </p><p>Recalling his experience, Coloma told ABS-CBN News, “Humbling experience, meeting indie and experimental directors who share the same love for cinema. What I love about our stories na ginagawang pelikula ay ‘yung puso. When we tell, sinisigurado nating may puso.”</p><p>The young filmmaker’s directorial talents are showcased in his diverse portfolio of experimental and narrative films, which have been celebrated by critics locally and globally.</p><p>“Masarap sa pakiramdam na gumawa ng isang pelikula na tungkol sa ating mga Pilipino at para sa mga Pilipino. I love watching Pinoy films, at nung naging director na ako, mas lumawak ang pananaw ko sa industry,” he shared.</p><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1725599868607image0 (6).jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>“When you see regular people, doon ka nakakakuha ng totoong istorya. Cinema should always be truthful. Also, you have to be authentic din as a director,” Coloma added. </p><p>Notably, he was recognized by the Office of the President CEZA for his contribution as a Technical Jury member in their inaugural and subsequent film festivals. He has also been honored by the youth organization SIRIB Ilocos Norte Express 2022. </p><p>According to him, he is deeply committed to the arts and advocacy, announcing his upcoming films “Pambansang Security Guard” and “Fearl is a Happiness,” which will be shot in Japan. </p><p>“Super excited na magawa ang films na ito. ‘Yung first, sana makuha namin si Maja Salvador. She’s a good actress,” he said, adding that story matters. </p><p>Coloma values hard work and dedication. Whether the project is small or big, he believes that you always have to give your best. When he’s not directing, he’s also a psyche therapist, herbalist, complementary therapist, and advocate of alternative medicine, promoting a holistic approach to wellness and healing.</p><p>He also announced his AMHUMAN Annual Worldwide Award ceremony, which will be held at the Camelot Hotel in Quezon City on September 8, with Robert Garcia as founder, Coloma as acting chairman, Pebbles Dizon as president, and Eric Padilla as event director.</p><p>The organization honors unsung heroes who work tirelessly to improve their communities. Some of the awardees include Nora Aunor, Sharon Cuneta, Catriona Gray, Kelvin Miranda, Mart Escudero, Jeric Raval, DepEd Asec. Dexter Galban, Marwin Archie Millare, Atty. Cyrus E. Torrena, and many more.</p>
