Alfy Yan kickstarts showbiz career with help of Claudine Barretto

MANILA — Nineteen-year-old Alfy Yan, nephew of the late matinee idol Rico Yan, officially kickstarted his showbiz career  by signing with Viva Artists Agency in Pasig City, Tuesday afternoon. His showbiz debut was made possible by the ex-girlfriend of his uncle, actress Claudine Barretto.“I am definitely nervous a bit. But it is also really exciting for me. Entering showbiz has always been a thought. people have always asked me about it, but it was just now I gained more confidence and matured a bit. I just had a boost of confidence,” Alfy, son of Rico&#x27;s sister, Geraldine Yan-Tueres, said in an interview.“Maybe I will do endorsements first since I am still studying, commercials… just test the waters first,” he added.According to Barretto, she introduced Alfy to Viva Entertainment’s big boss, Vic del Rosario, after the teen expressed his interest in following Rico’s footsteps during a gathering with his relatives.“I asked him. Nagulat sila na yun ang sagot ni Alfy kasi a few months back, ayaw pa niya. Tinawagan ko na agad si y boss vic? Dad you want alfy yan to join Biba? Ayun kinulit na ako ng  kinulit. Then, diretso na, ang bilis ng pangyayari,” she recalled.“Sobra ako minahal ng pamilya nila. So I am still here… And I have so much love to give,” she added.The actress shared meeting Alfy felt like a “divine intervention.”“Pagpasok ka ng kwarto, may goosebumps ako agad. Kamuka kamuka ni Rico. Para ako namalikmata talaga. First time ko nakita— mga ate oa lng niya kilala ko. Di ko pa nameet Alfy noon,” she said.While Barretto is confident that Alfy will carve out his own path in the industry, she also believes his journey is, in a way, a continuation of the dreams Rico never got to fulfill.“Alam ko hopes ni Rico noon, and wala ng ibang pwede magpatuloy pa if not him,” she reasoned.She went on: “Dami nangungulila sa pagkawala ni Rico. Everybody is rooting for Alfy. Nabuhayan ang Rico-Claudine fans. Parents, even Lola niya, lola’s boy siya, nabuhayan loob.”Alfy admitted that filling big shoes is inevitably nerve-wracking, but he feels lucky and honored to carry the same name that Rico once brought so much pride to.“It&#x27;s shocking that until now people talk about his late uncle. I didn&#x27;t realize until later on how big his impact was. I guess, there&#x27;s also a bit of pressure there. But I think it&#x27;s really like a nice feeling, I guess, that people are still supporting. It&#x27;s really heartwarming to see the support still up to this day,” he said. “It is really nice to hear about it. It&#x27;s really cool something like that in our family.”
