ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA -- There was an extra glow in Cam Lagmay during the Miss Universe Philippines Quezon City (MUPH QC) press conference because not only was she the reigning MUPH QC crown holder, but she was also wearing her engagement ring to fiancé Chris Newsome.“I would say I had two crowns last year: one was the Miss Universe Philippines Quezon City crown, and another one was this one,” she said as she showed her engagement ring.“I&#x27;m a bride-to-be this year so looking forward to also going into my own womanhood and my own personal journey,” the beauty queen said.Gilas standout and Meralco Bolts star Newsome announced their engagement on social media in November 2024.It was a night of lucky numbers when Newsome proposed on November 11 at precisely 11:11 p.m.What Lagmay loves the most about Newsome is his ability to be a “leader on and off the court.”“He&#x27;s very serious about his profession, which is playing basketball,” she said. “ I think that&#x27;s such a great thing to have, just the balance of both (personal and professional life). Being able to do good in your profession, but at the same time, take care of the people you love.”Lagmay expressed her excitement to see “little Newsomes running around the house” in the future and pass down knowledge they have learned throughout the years.“I think it&#x27;s my dream to not just become a beauty queen, but also to become somebody that people look up to when it comes to family life. When I was in college, I studied family life and child development. So raising children and being an example to the youth is something I&#x27;m really passionate about,” she said.They are set to have their wedding this July with their friends and family coming from all over the world to attend.“Chris is half-Filipino. His mom was born here in the Philippines. So because of all the experiences we&#x27;ve had in the Philippines, we think it&#x27;s just right to invite all of our family and friends from all over the world to come see this beautiful place that we live in, that we&#x27;ve been given so many amazing and incredible opportunities,” she said.When asked about she would encourage their future kids to become athletes and beauty queens, Lagmay’s easy answer was yes.“I think pageantry is such a great way for women to learn more about themselves, to represent something bigger than themselves, and of course to see how empowered women are around them. I&#x27;ve definitely felt that in my Miss Universe Philippines journey where I met women from all over the country and that widened my perspective on how Filipinos are, how our culture works. And I absolutely love it and of course want to pass that on to the next generation,” she said.“I believe Chris and I turned out really good because of sports and pageantry, so I definitely encourage my kids to do the same,” she said.
