<p>Morissette opened up how she fought for her relationship with singer Dave Lamar despite her parents’ disapproval, which eventually caused a years-long rift with her family.</p><p>In an interview with Karen Davila, the singer shared that her love story with Dave began as a long-distance relationship. &quot;&#x27;Yung first round po namin na mag-boyfriend-girlfriend kami, long distance pa. Si Dave nun ay based pa sa US... this was around...2014, 2015,&quot; she recalled.</p><p>Morissette admitted that distance and changing priorities tested their bond. &quot;Of course it came with the territory na dahil long distance minsan hindi laging nagsi-see eye-to-eye so even our priorities changed. We didn&#x27;t really fall out of love pero hindi lang kami nagka-align sa priorities namin ni Dave so &#x27;yun ang sinasabi ko na nung first time, hindi ko siya napaglaban. I think for me ang naging super sad po talaga is more than nawalan ako ng boyfriend, nawalan ako ng best friend talaga,&quot; she shared.  </p><p>When they reconnected, however, Morissette was determined not to let go again, even if her parents objected. When asked why her parents disapproved of their relationship, the singer relayed: &quot;Both my parents, I think dahil I was was also younger, they really wanted me to really prioritize my career. I understood that they had a lot of sacrifices. Morissette revealed that she and her family stopped talking for five years. The reconciliation came unexpectedly during one of her fan gatherings.</p><p>&quot;One of the traditions with my fans is every birthday or Chrismas, may get-together with the whole fans club and this one last year was a celebration of my birthday,&quot; she recalled. &quot;Nung paalis na po dinirect kami ng fans ko to a separate room in the venue that we had the party. And there was my mom, and my brother, and his wife who was pregnant na rin. My dad at that time wasn’t there yet... nasa Cebu po ata siya for a business trip,&quot; she recalled.</p><p>Sharing what transpired during their reunion, Morissette relayed: &quot;Ang una ko lang pong sinabi, &#x27;Mommy,&#x27; and I cried and I said I&#x27;m sorry. And I think at that point kahit hindi ko naman buong kasalanan I think I felt the need to say sorry because I still hurt them, I stll hurt the family. Ayun hug kami ni mommy and sabi lang niya, &#x27;Okay lang, okay na tayo, huwag na nating balikan &#x27;yan.&quot;</p><p>Later, she reconciled with her father as well. &quot;My dad po was a little later na. If I were to put it siguro, my mom was very hurt, my dad was mad. Parang ganun po &#x27;yung how they dealt with the situation of me fighting for myself. But when I saw my dad na po which was at home na, we were able to visit them na po sa where they were living na now, mas chill na si daddy, like nag-hug din siya,&quot; she said.</p><p>On what her dad said during their reconciliation, she relayed, &quot;Both of them naman po they just kep saying na let&#x27;s just move forward, let&#x27;s not look back na lang. Let&#x27;s all moved forward and try to make new memories together.&quot;</p>
