FAMAS apologizes to Rosa Rosal over fake news

<p>The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards released an official statement after posting fake news about veteran actress Rosa Rosal earlier today. A member of her family has also spoken up to deny that the renowned actress and humanitarian had passed away. </p><div><br/></div><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FFamasOfficialPage%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02S3Up4KGcCbdJKQuPn4ykdrW1Tg5AJtdpzeRrivA6wZTot6rzmvSZ4ui17nRYFV57l&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="250" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>The earlier post has since been then deleted by FAMAS but netizens had already spotted the now-deleted post nonetheless. </p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/2024/5/28/family-of-eva-darren-accepts-famas-apology-1459" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>READ: Family of Eva Darren accepts FAMAS’ apology</strong></a></div><div><br/></div><p>“We sincerely apologize for an earlier post regarding the passing of Ms. Rosa Rosal. It has come to our attention that the information was false,” FAMAS said in a statement. </p><div><br/></div><p>The award-giving body added that the veteran actress, now aged 97, is still alive contrary to what they previously shared on social media. </p><div><br/></div><p>“Ms. Rosal remains with us, and we deeply regret any confusion or distress this may have caused her family, friends, and admirers,” the statement added. </p><div><br/></div><p>FAMAS assured its supporters that it will do better in the future and will make sure the information they’ve gathered is verified. </p><div><br/></div><p>“FAMAS values truth and integrity, and we will continue to be more vigilant in verifying information before releasing any public statement,” they said. </p><div><br/></div><p>They made sure to publicly apologize to Rosa and her family who may have been shocked with the fake news. </p><div><br/></div><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmell.navarro.16%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02JQxfVsSicBo6Ev2gG1vXxn5MA13VeBrfTM6t4RYRazyQQvTKGEj3ABrQMHdVwX48l&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="679" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, seasoned entertainment journalist Mell Navarro shared a brief conversation he had with Rosa’s grandnephew, William Thio, who assured everyone that the veteran actress is doing well. </p><div><br/></div><p>“So, ang mismong apo ni 97-year old legendary actress Ms Rosa Rosal na si William Thio ang nag-deny na pumanaw na ang kanyang lola,” Mell wrote. </p><div><br/></div><p>William shared that his grandaunt is doing well and is just in her home. </p><div><br/></div><p>“Tita Rose is ok, she&#x27;s 97. I have no idea kung sino ang source nu&#x27;n,” William told Mell. </p><div><br/></div><p>The family has yet to share an official statement about the matter as of this writing. </p>
