Cardi B opens up about battling depression after split from Offset

<div><em>Content warning: This article contains discussions on mental health issues.</em></div><p>Cardi B opened up about experiencing depression last year after the end of her marriage with rapper Offset.</p><p>&quot;Last year, I was planning to have an album. I was planning to put out an album, but I couldn&#x27;t focus I fell in the deepest depression that I had ever had. And with that depression, I couldn&#x27;t function,&quot; she said in an interview with Jay Shetty on the <em>On Purpose</em> podcast.</p><p>She further revealed: &quot;I couldn&#x27;t eat. I couldn&#x27;t sleep. I couldn&#x27;t do nothing. So that just halted everything that I had.&quot;</p><p>When asked what triggered the depression, Cardi confessed it was a mix of professional pressure and the decline of her marriage. &quot;It was just, a lot of pressure for my career and I also felt like my marriage, like I felt the love dying from my end, from his end,&quot; she shared.</p><p>But Cardi admitted that she struggled moving on from her marriage. &quot;I was very lonely because I chose to be lonely. I was saying: &#x27;You know what, I can&#x27;t go through this anymore I have to put a stop to it.&#x27; But when I said I was going to put a stop to it, &#x27;cause you could say you you&#x27;re going to put a stop to it and you could go a month without being around somebody, it&#x27;s not when you say so. It&#x27;s when your heart says so,&quot; she pointed out.</p><p>She went on: &quot;I kept telling myself I will not contact this person for a month. I will not give in. I will not forgive this easy. I will not go back. I will not go into the pattern. I will not go through it but I was crying every day. I was hurt every day. I was out here in LA in a mansion by myself. I&#x27;m gonna apologize for it and I&#x27;m gonna work on it. And when I take accountability and you take advantage of me taking accountability and you take that as a, &#x27;See? I know she be back,&#x27; instead of me taking accountability and you take advantage of that, it really just killed everything,&quot; she said.</p><p>Cardi recounted how their separation took a toll on her mental health. &quot;I just kept thinking like what&#x27;s life going to be raising my last child without this person? What&#x27;s life going to be without that person being my friend anymore?  When you have those type of thoughts, it will make you sad. It will get you depressed. It will have you lost,&quot; she said.</p><p>Cardi shared that time became her ultimate healer. &quot;But I overcame that. I am the strongest that like I&#x27;ve ever been.
