Kokoy de Santos reveals his real personality off-camera

<p>Even though he was able to work with Gerald Anderson for the first time in film in the 2020 ABS-CBN series <em>A Soldier’s Heart</em>, actor Kokoy de Santos admits he was able to see a different side to the actor in their 51st Metro Manila Film Festival entry <em>Rekonek</em> which had Gerald doing double duty as actor and first-time producer. In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Kokoy talks about Gerald in a different kind of light from what he observed about the actor off-camera. </p><div><br/></div><p>“Sobrang saglit lang ng role ko sa <em>A Soldier’s Heart</em> pero siyempre naka-work ko pa rin si Ge at saka yung buong cast din dun. Na-enjoy ko. Dito sa <em>Rekonek</em>, para sa akin kasi, nagkaroon kami ng interaction bilang producer siya bago kami mag-start ng shoot,” he said. </p><div><br/></div><p>Kokoy noted how Gerald is as a producer. “Iba yung vibe niya. Parang very focused siya. Hindi ko sinasabing hindi siya focused pag artista siya ha. Pero iba lang. Siguro mas nandun siya sa logistics, ganun yung dating eh. At nakakakatuwa lang kasi siyempre bago rin ito sa kanya. And at the same time, napasok na niya. So feeling ko mag-tu-tuloy tuloy kasi itong first niya na film. Kasi nag-produce na rin siya ng series and all. Kahit na matagal tagal na rin akong umaarte kung saan saan. Every time may bagong project ako, wala akong alam. Papasok ako sa set, prepared ako, pero pag dinirect na ako ng aking director, tapon ko muna lahat yun kasi i-a-absorb ko muna kung ano yung gusto ba nung director ko. So kung ano mang i-offer actually, laban naman ako eh. This was evident in his previous projects in films like <em>And the Breadwinner Is…</em> and <em>Your Mother’s Son</em>, where he won the national Best Actor Award at the Asian Academy Creative Awards last year. Kokoy also made his stage debut in the play <em>Ateng</em> by award-winning director Vincent de Jesus earlier this month. </p><div><br/></div><p>“Hindi naman ako showbiz. Kasi pag ayaw ko, ayaw ko talaga eh. Wala akong yung okay lang. Wala akong gitna, sa totoo lang. Kasi ganun din naman ako in real life. Like off-cam, ang hindi nila alam, nag-se-seryoso rin naman ako. Opo, hindi lang ako puro ganito (laughs). Makakausap niyo rin po ako ng maayos. At ang hindi alam sa kaibigan ko, sa pamilya ko, kapag talagang seryoso yung usapan, nandun ako. Problema man yan or kung ano mang maitutulong ko, nandun ako.
