<p>Jessie J opened up about why she decided to break protocol and hug Kate Middleton during their recent encounter at the Royal Variety Performance.</p><p>In an interview on <em>This Morning</em>, the &quot;Price Tag&quot; hitmaker recalled being instructed not to initiate physical contact with the Princess of Wales but said her instincts took over.</p><p>&quot;I was briefed not to, but... I just saw a mom that has also gone through cancer publicly, and I just wanted to give her a hug,&quot; Jessie said in an interview on <em>This Morning</em>.</p><p>She added: &quot;It was as simple as that. I didn&#x27;t see her as the Princess of Wales, I mean obviously I did, and I was respectful... I said to her, &#x27;Can I give you a hug?&#x27; and she received it.&quot;</p><p>The singer added that she felt a deep emotional connection to Kate, knowing the challenges the Princess may had experienced due to cancer.</p><p>&quot;I just said [to her], &#x27;It&#x27;s inspiring.&#x27; And I just... The Princess of Wales at that time shared that she was undergoing &quot;preventative chemotherapy&quot; and was in the early stages of the said treatment.</p><p>In September 2024, Kate announced that she completed her chemotherapy treatments.</p><p>In January this year, the royal shared via social media that her cancer was in remission. &quot;It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,&quot; she said in a statement on social media platform X that month.</p><p>She added: &quot;As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.  There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.&quot;</p><p>Meanwhile, it was in early June this year when Jessie revealed that she was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. The singer disclosed that she received the diagnosis before the release of her latest single.</p><p>&quot;Before &#x27;No Secrets&#x27; came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I&#x27;m highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form but I&#x27;m holding on to the word early,&quot; she revealed.</p><p>Jessie relayed that she has been &quot;in and out of tests throughout this whole period.&quot;</p><p>The singer opened up about her diagnosis in the hopes of connecting with others who may be going through similar challenges.</p><p>&quot;I just wanted to be open and share it because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I&#x27;m not processing it because I&#x27;m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories. I&#x27;m an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much. Similar and worse,&quot; she said.</p><p>The singer continued: &quot;I&#x27;m getting to keep my nipples, that&#x27;s good. It&#x27;s a weird topic and a weird situation. And I know the press are going to say crazy stuff but you know what, to get diagnosed with this as I&#x27;m putting out a song called &#x27;No Secrets&#x27; right before a song called &#x27;Living My Best Life,&#x27; which was all pre-planned before I found out about this, I mean you can&#x27;t make it up.&quot;</p><p>In late June, the singer underwent surgery after the diagnosis.</p>
