Demi Moore reflects on her growth from the ‘little girl who didn’t believe in herself’ at 31st SAG Awards

<p>The awards season run of Hollywood actress Demi Moore continues as she received the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.</p><p>In her acceptance speech for the SAG Award, Demi became emotional as she recalled the days when she first became a member of the prestigious guild.</p><div><iframe width="1263" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eZoBjF58BQ0" title="Demi Moore: Award Acceptance Speech | The 31st Annual SAG Awards" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>“This is extraordinary and so deeply meaningful. As I was thinking about this night, I realized I hadn’t thought back to when I got my membership to this incredible organization. It was in 1978. I was 15, almost 16,’ she started.</p><p>The veteran star shared that this marked a turning point in her life, as the person she was back then had no idea about acting.</p><p>“It changed my life because it gave me meaning, it gave me purpose, and it gave me direction because I was a kid on my own who had no blueprint for life, and I certainly knew nothing about acting,” she expressed.</p><p>She went on to share how she gained knowledge and experience from all her colleagues, “But I watched, and I listened and I learned from all of you. It’s what helped me and so as these young actors who are having to do it all, I just encourage you, don’t lose sight of the human connection. That’s the work that we do. It’s to be connected to one another” Demi explained,</p><p>The lead star of <em>The Substance</em> didn&#x27;t forget to thank the people and creatives behind the critically acclaimed film.</p><p>Towards the end of her speech, the multi-awarded actress appeared lost for words, becoming emotional as she reflected on her younger self, who didn&#x27;t believe in herself.</p><p>“And just the final thing I’ll say is, you know, the idea that what we believe is so much more powerful than what we think... ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’ But the reality is, when I believe it, I will see it, and I am so grateful for this. Thank you. That little girl, that little girl who didn’t believe in herself, I just... The words are kind of beyond me, so I’m just gonna have to just say thank you, thank you so much,” Demi shared.</p><p>Demi’s most recent award is in recognition of her well-received performance in the 2024 body horror film <em>The Substance</em>, where she portrayed Elisabeth Sparkle. In the film, Sparkle, fired by her producer (Dennis Quaid) due to her age, turns to a black market drug that creates a younger version of herself (played by Margaret Qualley), leading to unexpected and troubling side effects.</p><p>Her performance has already earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, the Critics&#x27; Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, and nominations for both the Academy Award and the British Academy Film Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.</p><p>Demi is also known for her iconic roles in films such as <em>Ghost</em> (1990),<em> A Few</em> <em>Good Men</em> (1992), and <em>Indecent Proposal</em> (1993).</p><p>By: Jemuel Tandoc</p>
