Here's why Charo Santos was almost fired from ABS-CBN because of Dolphy

<p>MANILA -- Did you know that screen veteran and ABS-CBN executive Charo Santos almost got fired from ABS-CBN because of the late King of Comedy Dolphy?</p><p>This is what Santos revealed in her &quot;story time&quot; uploaded on her social media accounts.</p><p>In the video, Santos shared that this happened in the &#x27;90s when Dolphy just arrived from the United States and called her up to say that he would like to return on television.</p><p>As a fan, Santos  was closely following Dolphy&#x27;s shows on television including &quot;Buhay Artista&quot; and &quot;John &amp; Marsha.&quot;  Santos also became his leading lady in &quot;My Juan En Only.&quot;</p><p>But she needed to convince her boss who said that her idea of bringing back Dolphy on TV was a big risk.</p><p>&quot;I went to my boss &#x27;Sir, ibalik natin si Mang Dolphy.&#x27; &#x27;Ano ka ba, hindi ka ba nag-iisip? Tatlong taon nang wala &#x27;yan, nakalimutan na &#x27;yan ng tao.&#x27; &#x27;Sir -- hindi. As far as I&#x27;m concerned he is the King of Comedy.&#x27; Sabi ni Sir, &#x27;Malaking risk &#x27;yan, eh kung hindi mag-rate &#x27;yang programa ni Dolphy?&#x27; &#x27;Sir, &#x27;pag hindi nag-rate &#x27;yang programa ni Dolphy, you can fire me.&#x27; Parang natulala ako sabi ko, &#x27;Bakit ko ba sinabi &#x27;yon?&#x27; Wala ng urungan ito,&quot; Santos recalled.</p><p>&quot;I got the best team and gathered the right casting combination. &#x27;Pag &#x27;yung boss ko raw hindi natawa in five minutes, umuwi na raw ako, mag-resign. Sa awa ng Diyos, in the first five minutes, nadinig namin &#x27;yung halakhak ng aming top boss. Also part of the show was Nova Villa. </p><p>&quot;And sa pilot episode pa lang po ng &#x27;Home Along Da Riles,&#x27; it became the number one program on primetime in ABS-CBN and it remained number one for the next 17 years.
