EXCLUSIVE: How Moonstar88 sold their guitar to Boss Toyo to help Daddy A of Daddy’s Home

<p>Moonstar88 recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their iconic classic ”Torete” at Eton Centris in Quezon City. Beyond its cult status, the song has also played a special role in supporting someone close to the band—their colleague in the music industry.</p><p>In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, the OPM band shared how they sold a guitar that holds sentimental value for them to internet personality Jayson Luzadas, better known as Boss Toyo.</p><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1748828325200EXCLUSIVE How Moonstar88 sold their guitar to Boss Toyo to help Daddy A of Daddys Home.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>“Alam lang namin ‘yung situation with Daddy A. Si Daddy A kasi ‘yung kilala namin talaga. And nalaman namin ‘yung situation niya. And ganun talaga sa industry namin. We know each other. Hindi naman kasi continuous ang flow ng finances ng mga katulad namin, so we support (each other). Nagtutulungan talaga. This is not the first time,” lead guitarist Herbert Hernandez mentioned.</p><p>He also revealed that the guitar was originally donated to the Soupstar Museum, a project by their management. However, the band decided to pull it out to help Daddy A during his time of need.</p><p>“During that time, nagkataon, na-invite kami ni Boss Toyo. Dinala namin ‘yung guitar. Dinonate ko na ‘yung gitara na ‘yun sa Soupstar pero we pulled it out para makatulong. And surprisingly, nakatulong naman,” Herbert added.</p><p>Earlier this year, the members of Moonstar88 went to Boss Toyo’s well-known pawnshop to sell a guitar that had been used in their iconic songs &quot;Torete&quot; and &quot;Migraine.&quot; The money they received was sent to Allan Mitchell Silonga, also known as Daddy A. </p><p>Daddy A is a member of the X Factor Philippines finalist group Daddy’s Home, part of K24/7, and the father of OPM artist Blaster Silonga. He is currently dealing with health-related issues.</p><p>After negotioations, Moonstar88 agreed to sell the guitar, along with 6Cyclemind’s ASAP trophy, for a total of ₱400,688.</p><div> <iframe width="681" height="383" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3fR8JlQS9-4" title="Pinoy Pawnstars Ep.477 - Moonstar88 &amp; 6cyclemind : Award &amp; Guitar worth 1,238,888!! 😱" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>The band’s vocalist, Maysh Baay, confirmed the significance of the guitar, noting its importance in Moonstar88’s musical journey: “Nasa music video siya ng ‘Torete’, tapos siya ‘yung gitara na ginamit sa recording ng ‘Migraine’.”</p><p>She added that it was a privilege to have this very item used to help a fellow artist in the music industry.</p><p>“Actually, privilege ‘yung makatulong. Maraming nagawa at natulungan din si Daddy A. So I think it&#x27;s very fitting for the industry and people like us to be able to help out also,” she explained. </p><p>“Pero surprise ‘yan. Surprise ‘yung ginawa namin. Kasi di rin namin alam kung mabibenta namin eh, sa totoo lang,” she admitted.</p><p>Bon Sundiang, who plays drums and also does vocals for the band, shared that they have always been fans of Daddy A.</p><p>“Daddy&#x27;s Home pa lang, sobrang fan na ako ng group nila, so Daddy&#x27;s Home at K24/7, parang ang laki nilang impluensya sa akin personally. So parang nakakatuwa. Thankful kami na, in a way, nakakatulong kami. And even sa ibang artist naman na nangangailangan ng tulong, we try our best to help and reach out kahit sa maliit na paraan,” Bon said.</p><p>The band was also glad that Daddy A took to social media to express his appreciation for all their efforts and support.</p><p>“Nag-post din siya na parang very thankful siya. Sabi niya parang hindi ko alam kung anong nagawa ko sa inyo. Kumbaga parang feeling niya, hindi naman daw directly niya tayo natutulungan talaga sa career natin. So parang he was very surprised and thankful na nakatulong kami. Pero actually fan kami niya, ni Daddy A. At saka tumutugtog kami sa bar niya sa Marikina,” Maysh added.</p><p>Meanwhile, they also expressed their gratitude to Boss Toyo for giving a fair value to their guitar and supporting their cause.</p><p>“Salamat din kay Boss Toyo for acknowledging us and sa pag-acknowledge ng value ng items na iyon. Hindi lang kami nakatulong pati siya. Kumbaga, sarili niyang pera ‘yun. Hindi naman ‘yun sponsorship or what,” Bon expressed.</p><p>Herbert agreed and revealed that haggling with the internet pawnstar is very real and definitely not scripted.</p><p>“May re-reveal ako sa inyo tungkol ni Boss Toyo: Totoo siya. Legit, as in. Before kami pumasok doon, walang usap-usap. I mean, baka akala nila scripted.  Hindi niya alam kung anong tatanggapin niya o hindi,” Herbert shared.</p>
