Jaya shares how mother Elizabeth Ramsey shaped her as a performer

<p>Jaya admitted that she still feels nervous whenever she stages a concert.</p><p>The singer is set to headline her homecoming concert, <em>Jaya: All Hits</em>, on September 14 at the New Frontier Theater.</p><p>&quot;May konting [nerbiyos]. I think &#x27;yung mga isip isip pagka-singer kasi &#x27;yung boses, &#x27;yung pahinga, lalo na may jet lag so medyo maiksi rin &#x27;yung aming pagtitipon before the concert,&quot; she confessed in an interview with Boy Abunda. Jaya recently flew back to the country from the US where she is now based.</p><p>When it comes to performing, Jaya said she always looked up to her mother, the late Elizabeth Ramsey, especially for her spontaneity on stage.</p><p>&quot;Kilala mo naman si mama di ba? Siya kasi &#x27;yung peg ko. Siya &#x27;yung naging... coach [ko but] she was not someone who taught me how to do things, but I looked at everything that she did, wala talaga siyang planning when it comes to performing. It&#x27;s just all spontainety and good luck,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;I think that became my go to pagdating sa concerts. I&#x27;ve been told what to do, what to sing and everything, but the moment I step out, it&#x27;s just good luck sa ating dalawa - myself and myself... Sinasabi ko hindi ako famous. Naramdaman ko na &#x27;yung kilalang kilala, feeling mo tinitingala ka pero di mo naiintindihan kung bakit kasi ang feeling ko hindi naman ako ganun kagaling kumanta, maraming mas magaling, so I don&#x27;t know the feeling of real fame like with a lot of money, like oozing with a lot of money, traveling around the world wth no care in the world hindi ko &#x27;yan ginagawa... Simple lang ako,&quot; the singer said.</p><p>She went on: &quot;Now fame becomes toxic, feeling ko sa nakikita ko sa ibang tao, dun ko na gini-gauge &#x27;yung toxic siya kasi may mga tao na nasa show business, feeling ko lang, this is just an observation, sobrang famous parang hindi ko na malapitan, hindi ko na makausap katulad ng dati. Dun ako nalulungkot,  not for me but for those who really have that type of fame.&quot;</p>
