'The Vampire Diaries' star Nina Dobrev and Olympic champion Shaun White break up, call off engagement

<p><em>The Vampire Diaries</em> actress Nina Dobrev and her fiancé, Olympic champion Shaun White, have called off their engagement. </p><p>A report from PEOPLE confirmed the split, citing that the breakup was a mutual decision. &quot;It wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,&quot; a source told the magazine.</p><p>The pair first began dating in 2019 and started living together when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.</p><p>In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Shaun shared that he was initially clueless about Nina&#x27;s background when they crossed paths at a Tony Robbins event in Florida. &quot;I actually didn&#x27;t know anything about her,&quot; he confessed.</p><p>After the event, they went out for a meal together. &quot;The place was packed. And she was like, &#x27;Let me go see if I can get a table,&#x27;&quot; he recounted. </p><p>Shaun recalled that the staff started asking for a photo with Nina. &quot;And I was like, &#x27;What&#x27;s happening? Yeah, I like a schedule and I like a plan for sure. I&#x27;m a Capricorn so that&#x27;s very much part of my personality. But, we implemented something, I think, it&#x27;s really cool. We do date night every week and we alternate [planning],&quot; Nina shared.</p><p>The actress added: &quot;So, one week I&#x27;ll plan it and he won&#x27;t have any idea what we&#x27;re doing so it&#x27;s a surprise for him. And then the following week, he&#x27;ll plan and it&#x27;ll be a complete surprise for me. And we do that every single week.&quot;</p><p>Nina and Shaun announced their engagement in October 2024.</p><p>&quot;RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé,&quot; Nina posted on Instagram upon sharing the photos from the proposal at that time.</p>
