Jen Barangan reveals she underwent eyelid surgery

<p>Former flight attendant turned content creator Jen Barangan revealed that she underwent upper blepharoplasty, more commonly known as eyelid surgery.</p><p>In her first vlog of the year, Jen chose to walk viewers through the decision she had been quietly contemplating for years, offering context behind why the procedure mattered deeply to her. </p><p>“Super tagal ko na talagang gustong gawin yung upper blepharoplasty [surgery]. The reason kung bakit ko siya gustong gawin at dahil pagod na akong maglagay ng eyelid tape every single day of my life.”  </p><p>She went on to explain what the procedure involved, sharing, “For the procedure, just in case you are not familiar, tatanggaling yung excess skin sa upper eyelid ko. It’s so uneven kaya palagi talaga akong nage-eye lid tape. And just to give you an idea, almost two years na rin akong nagsusuot ng eyelid tape every single day. Noong na-discover ko yung eyelid tape, hindi na ako nag-stop maglagay. Inaral ko talaga paano siya nilalagay, na-addict na lang rin talaga ako,” she shared. </p><p>Jen eventually underwent the procedure at a cosmetic clinic in Makati City. She spent a total of around four hours at the clinic, with the surgery itself lasting about an hour and the remaining time spent in the recovery room. After the operation, her eyelids had stitches and were visibly bruised. </p><p>In the days that followed, Jen documented her recovery. A day after the surgery, she shared that swelling on her face and bruising around her eyes were still present, while also showing the medicines, ointments, and post-operation care she needed to follow.  </p><p>By the second day, the swelling had started to lessen, and she demonstrated how she carefully cleaned and took care of her eyes, noting that she was not allowed to let them get wet. </p><p>“For me, hindi siya masakit or maybe because I have high tolerance in pain.” </p><p>“It looks painful but it’s not,” she added. </p><p>By the third day, Jen noticed further improvement as the swelling continued to subside and the redness around her eyes decreased. However, she also shared that itchiness around the scars made it difficult for her to sleep. “Sobrang kati niya last night, hindi talaga ako nakatulog. Nag-cold compress na lang ako para [to relieve] the itchiness kasi sobrang kati niya talaga,” she recalled. </p><div><iframe width="795" height="447" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tWhTq45L-i0" title="my upper blepharoplasty journey (eyelid surgery)" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>A week into recovery, the swelling had largely gone down, and bruising was no longer visible. According to Jen, her doctor described the healing as successful. “Malaki na yung improvement niya as you can see, nag-subside na yung swelling tapos yung bruising nag-lighten na rin siya,” adding, “Maganda daw yung healing ng mata ko.” </p><p>By day 10, the stitches had been removed, with only minimal bruising left as she waited for complete healing. “So far, I love the result. Hindi ko na kailangan gumamit ng eyelid tape. Nai-imagine ko na talaga yung full result niya and I love it so much,” she shared. </p><p>Twenty days after the surgery, Jen revealed that there was no more swelling or bruising, although the scars were still visible. She noted that full recovery would take about six months.  </p><p>“It’s official, I am saying goodbye to eyelid tape. She added that her pre-surgery tests cost less than ₱2,000. </p><p>Before ending her vlog, Jen addressed viewers directly, acknowledging the discussions her openness might spark. “I know for sure that once I upload this vlog or once I share this journey, it will spark a lot of conversations. There will be two reactions from people, positive and negative. That’s inevitable, I am fully aware of that,” she said. </p><p>She explained why she still chose to share her experience publicly. “I am also aware that I have the option not to share this journey [and] I can just let people assume what they see, for me that’s an easier route. And to those people who may not understand, I don’t expect you to but all I’m asking is a little respect.” </p><p>“Respeto lang sa isa’t isa because at the end of the day, this is my body. I can do whatever I want with my body as long as I’m fully aware kung ano yung papasukin ko. As long as safe ako sa kung ano man ang gagawin ko. ‘Yun lang, respeto sa isa’t isa,” she concluded.  </p>
