Mentor Dan shares the biggest backlash he has experienced and the hard lessons he learned from it

<p>Content creator Mentor Dan, whose real name is Daniel Laudit, opened up about the biggest backlash he has experienced as an online personality, shedding light on a difficult chapter that tested both his platform and personal growth. </p><p>Mentor Dan began his content journey in 2020 while working as a call center agent, experimenting with different types of video content before gaining traction on TikTok through his humorous skits impersonating scammers. He later expanded his content into travel vlogs, affiliate videos, and honest reviews, all delivered with his signature humor. </p><p>In a candid and spicy interview on <em>Hot Takes</em>, the content creator did not hold back as he addressed the question about the most significant backlash he has faced and how it shaped him.  </p><p>“Actually, I&#x27;m very open [about this]. [Year] 2024, I’m turning 4 million followers. From 3.9 [million], bumagsak ako ng 3.6 million followers,” he recalled. </p><p>Before diving deeper into the issue, Mentor clarified that he is now on good terms with the ‘CEO’ involved in the incident, whom he chose not to name. “Ang nangyari is meron kaming misunderstanding. Tapos sa misunderstanding na yan, siguro mas nanaig ‘yung galit.” </p><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KHemtHCRUIw" title="Hot Takes Episode 3: “Ayokong Magpaka-Plastic” featuring Mentor Daniel" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>He admitted that stress and overwhelming responsibilities played a role in how he reacted at the time. </p><p>“I don’t want to use this as an excuse pero kapag sobrang dami nating iniisip, sobrang daming responsibilities sa life, [and] sobrang daming trabaho, naste-stress tayo. Kapag naste-stress tayo, mabilis tayong pumitik,” he said. </p><p>It was a hard-earned learning experience about how to handle criticism and conflict especially being in the public eye.  </p><p>“Ganon ‘yung nangyari sa akin. And by that, parang narealize ko na kapag pala sobrang galit ka... in real life, tapos madalas kang nagagalit, maraming ma-aapektuhan. Makaka-apekto ka ng ibang tao, maa-apektuhan ‘yung ginagawa mo sa buhay mo, maapektuhan ang pamilya mo. Ayun ‘yung natutunan ko. Pero mas naging aware ako. Ayoko magpaka-plastic kasi until now, I&#x27;m trying my best na hindi mag-filter masyado. Kasi kapag nafi-filter ko masyado, parang hindi na ako yun,” he explained.</p><p>He also shared the advice he continues to carry from his parents, particularly about choosing understanding over conflict. </p><p>“Lagi sa akin sinasabi ng nanay ko, ng magulang ko, na ‘mas umintindi ka na lang’. Mas magiging bigger person ka kapag ikaw ‘yung mas nakakaintindi,” he said.  </p><p>Mentor acknowledged that constantly being the “bigger person” can be exhausting, but he still believes in the value of that mindset. At the same time, he pointed out that sometimes, choosing silence can be the more responsible option. </p><p>“Ngayon ha, sa dami nang nangyayari sa atin, mas pipiliin ko na lang manahimik. Mas powerful kapag hindi ka apektado, unbothered ka eh... nakadepende pa rin talaga sitwasyon kung mananahimik ka,” he maintained.</p><p>As a content creator whose life is often under public scrutiny, Mentor also addressed criticisms about posting cryptic messages online instead of keeping issues private. </p><p>“Actually, doon papasok ‘yung may magawa ka mang tama o mali, may masasabi ang tao sa’yo. It’s up to you kung paano mo iha-handle ang mga situation. Naniniwala rin naman ako sa ‘keep it private’ pero hindi sa lahat ng bagay, lalo na content creator ako. My life is an open book.”</p>
